I've done wood for a bit and have tried all kinds of drying methods. Thru trial and error, I found that the reason wood takes 2 years is because of how its stacked. If you put it in a woodshed that is enclosed, it takes forever especially if you are more than 2 rows deep. I once stacked white oak 3 rows deep outside and after 2 years, it still wasn't dry. I now stack it one row deep. Yes it takes up space as my row is 90' long and 5' high. The same white oak is ready to burn after a year. Obviously this is not conducive to a wood shed but you at least need space between rows for faster drying. It seems critical to faster wood drying to not enclose the wood. The pain in the neck part is moving it to the woodshed. One of the advantages of the single row, is to be able to push a bucket load of wood with one shot by cozying up the tractor bucket next to the wood pile, getting on the other side and pushing with a 4' 2x8 board that I put handles on. (drilled a 1" hole and inserted a 1" dowel) At least loading the bucket goes fast.
