I used to use wood racks but got tired of filling a wheel barrow or loader every night or 2. I started using pallets about 5 years ago and it allows me to put 3 or four in one bay of the attached garage where they are kept dry. This also allows me to not have to go out into the snow at night when I would forget to fill the firebox for the next day. And before anyone brings it up, no I have never had rodents in the house, ever. If you build a tight house they don't get in.

I hear ya on that homedad. I set a pallet down in the attached garage about every 5-7 days depending on the temps. Will place a packet of mouse poison in a pallet a week-10 days before moving the pallet in the garage where any blown-in snow can melt off, and then a short wheelbarrow load can daily be wheeled to the nearby woodburner.

About 20 pallets per winter is what I go through. Covered with a 4x4' sheet of used rubber roofing. This load is a partial stack showing the iMatch and forks used, and so quickly can switch with the ballast box during winter. At 20 below, it is great to only have to spend 5 min. bringing in another 5 days of firewood for the boiler. (the split pieces are stacked on the pallet right when they come off the splitter, then stored outside for two years, two-pallets high)

I prefer to make my woodsheds portable

I have ~6 built so far, they hold roughly 1 face cord each. I'm hoping to make 6 more this winter. Pallets, 2x4s, deck screws, osb, and roll roofing.

I drop them right at my sliding glass door as needed, which is in the same room as the wood fireplace insert. Works well for me.

Nice shed! I see your forks will fit on the FEL, can you pick the shed with the FEL?

Thanks! I can pick up the shed with the FEL/forks, but not by much. I roughly sized the woodsheds so that I could pick them up with the FEL if needed but if the wood is wet I couldn't lift them to full height. Most of my firewood is Ash, if I loaded it with a freshly cut living oak I don't know that I could lift it with the FEL at all.

Whenever possible I generally prefer the forks to be on the 3-pt than the FEL as I have more lift capacity due to how they rate 3pt. hitches 24" away, it also doesn't require ballast, places the load on the bigger rear axle/tires, and generally feels a bit more stable.

I made one woodshed from an oversize pallet that's ~50% wider than the one pictured and the forks on the 3pt can lift it! Holds 1/2 of a full cord, that's a lot of heat!

I have An old livestock trailer that is no longer suitable for livestock or highway use and not worth rebuilding , but it makes a great portable wood shead it keeps most of the weather off and has plenty of ventelation for drying.
it was well worth the cost.

I've been thinking about doing this for a while and by looking at your's with a roof I like it. My FEL has a little more capacity than yours so I think I'll make one and try it. Great something else on the to-do list!
