If you would just tee a pressure gage in the IN port of the log splitter valve, you should be able to trouble shoot the system.

Is your log splitter relief activated?

Do you hear any screeching?

i'll have to order the stuff to t in a pressure gauge the only local place i can find with one wants 40.00 for it as soon as i get it in i'll post what i find.i've heard screeching a few times bringing the cylinder back in what ever the problem is it kick the detent out you have to hold it in the retract position

problem solved one of the fittings i used on my cylinder didnt get drilled completely out it had a tiny pin hole for the fluid to go through a new fitting and its working fine.thanks for the help you guys are great:D

Thats a flow control fitting. You use it if a cylinder is running too fast and you need to slow it down. Nice you found the problem.
