WAY off topic for this post, but have you considered moving that low spot/ditch closer to the fence? That would give you a more stable and flat area to drive around your barn, plus keep that water away from your hay and equipment. I don't think the goats would mind too much and it would be short work with the hoe and loader.

Sandman,
Yes, it is way off the topic. The ditch is fine where it is. I leveled the barn over solid clay. It is high enough. Only thing that goes there on a regualr basis is my ZT mower.

Ma'am,

As someone who has worked and hung from great heights with nothing but air underneath, I would recommend a safety harness.

A length of static kernmantle rope attached to a substantial anchor (maybe from the other side of the barn and up over the roof, with folded tarps at sharp edges to protect the rope) and an ascender/carabiner combination attaching you (in your harness) to the rope.

You would clip in (on-rope) to this whenever you go up on the platform, and adjust your position on the rope with the ascender. Unhook (off-rope) when leaving the platform.
RFB,
Yes, I know what you are talking about. In the attached photo on the right you will see a yellow inertia reel "pull down" strap hanging. The reels are out of the way of the planes moving in and out until we need them. Only the yellow strap hits the plane as it moves in and out. Then we pull the strap down and attach the reel to our full body harnesses as we play on the airplane.

Thanks for the suggestions! How do you draw on the photos? I have wanted to do that before.;) I won't need a full 7 foot wide platform, which is the width of the bucket. At first thought, I was going to do that. But I figured since I only have easy access from one direction, I will just make the platform on one side. It's the KISS principle.;) It will have chains supporting it, similar to the layout in the photo below. I won't be using the full length of the platform. I will put handrails at 5 or 6 feet. No need go out that far as I would have to get down the ladder and raise the bucket anyway, so I can just move it forward at the same time. I left it 8 feet long because I didn't want to cut the boards and plywood shorter. Don't worry, it will get tested before I use it:D .

I have Adobe PhotoShop, a great program but, $$$$.
If you have Windows on your computer, you should have Microsoft Paint. You can draw with that too.

Seems like you have a plan and everything in place.....but heres another option...

I couldn't tell from the pics, but could you possibly use the FEL with the tractor inside the barn? Instead of trying to back out perpendicular to use the bucket from the outside, can you pull up to the outer wall between the posts from the inside and raise the bucket to a workable height? Effectively the only part of the tractor "outside" would be the bucket. Hopefully this makes sense.

Champy,
I designed the barn so any FEL, but a full size TLB can raise it's FEL full height inside the barn. Good to have the height to work on it. Even with the height, my Big RED Beast has to dump the bucket to raise all the way in the barn. Anyway, I can work the door track and header with the tractor inside the barn. Everything else has to be done from the outside. How can I do that with the 2x6 girts in place for the siding? My bucket is over two feet high. The 2x6 girts are on two foot centers.

.

Brandi,

I don't think anyone has said this yet, but that drainage ditch is causing quite a tilt on the tractor. So, if you're gonna work fr the platform w the tractor parallel to the barn you should put the right bh outrigger down.

I wanted to get all the metal installed ASAP on the back side. The weather forecast was good on Monday and Tuesday, so I took last night and tonight off as vacation. Yesterday I started using the platform and immediately saw that it was lacking. I added two shelves for tools to be at hands reach.:) It worked better than expected and I used the whole length of the platform. I now wish I would have made this before I installed the barn front siding!:( Now I will take the barn work back to http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1333575
