If you see a hummingbird trying drill through even wood siding, I want pics. :D

Oops, I had another senior moment, obviously.:laughing:

The best I can tell from google searching is that suet is a food source that simply attracts woodpeckers to eat it rather than searching for food in your siding.

3 Ways to Get Rid of Woodpeckers - wikiHow
People put suet out simply to attract woodpeckers because they like to view them. Woodpeckers will supplement their normal diet with the suet viewing it as simply another and easy source of food. If they have found bugs in your siding, they will still go after them as well. You may make the probem worse by attracting even more woodpeckers. If the suet slows the drumming, I would think it would only be for competion at the suet feeder.

When we lived in the city, we had a house with gutters and in the spring a Red Headed Wood Pecker would drum on the gutter. The house had four corners to picked from but he decided the gutter next to the master bedroom which happened to be near my head, was the PERFECT gutter to drum every freak'n morning after dawn....

I moved to the country.

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Seriously. :D:D:D

Bird, you are just going to have to move back to the country!

I have not had a problem since! Course, the country house does not have gutters....

I heard a woodpecker hammering away on something metal the other day and went out to investigate and brought my camera. Found a red-headed woodpecker banging away at a road sign. I was able to get within about 15' of him and snap a couple of photos before he took off. It sure makes a racket.

Another sign of Spring? The last 3 days a woodpecker has been drumming away on our rain gutters again. I wonder if it's the same one we had last year about this time.

I would bet it is the same bird. For the last few years we lived in the city house a wood pecker would go for the gutter drum and I figured it was the same danged critter. We get birds here that will go after their reflection in the house windows. I think they are the same birds from year to year.

My neighbor is a bird person... She gives bird tours, does bird counts, and knows all sorts of things birdy. She had a big aspen tree next to her house. This spring she hired a tree surgeon to cut off all of the limbs but left the stem standing in hopes of attracting pileated woodpeckers. :thumbsup:
I guess it's just step beyond putting out bird feeders.
