This has been a slow project due to other delays. The bottom mounts are done and work well. The top mounts have been built and I need to try them on the 1050 backhoe. The top mount was built from pieces of a Harbor Freight quick hitch and lots of extra metal. I will post a picture when I get it all done.

PS: this L48 is a great tractor. i graded my neighbors road with it and it did great. I do think the road speed is a little slow. It only does 15 mPH on the road.

Finally this project is done. It took a lot longer than I thought, but I taught myself to weld in the process. I tried out the backhoe today and it works!

The backhoe is very powerful! Now I need to get a 12 inch bucket.

I will take some pictures but I hope to paint the backhoe Kubota Orange first. It is now a mix of yellow and black.
Another question for this project. One of the teeth is broken, the last inch is gone. Do you weld a tip back on or replace the whole tooth? And if replace the whole tooth, what is involved in taking the old one off? It looks like it is welded on, so a grinder?

Congrats, Jerry, on finishing this project! I am also looking forward to
seeing pix.

I think your teeth use welded-on shanks (tooth holders), and replaceable
teeth. The teeth are prob crimp-ons that have been welded on the
sides. (I do that, too.) Just take an angle grinder with cutoff wheel
and cut the welds. You should be able to find replacement teeth at
your local industrial tractor store (any brand). Bring the old one in with you.

What happened to the (OEM) original backhoe that comes with the L48?

I bought mine used and it came with a grader, fork lifts and 4/1 bucket. No backhoe. The tractor had 250 hours on it.

Thanks for the advice on the teeth!

I too have a Woods 1050 and am looking into making a subframe. I'd love to see some pics of yours to guide me in my quest!

Thanks!

I brought up this old post to discuss results of the conversion. I was helping a friend dig up a clogged leach line and the backhoe worked perfectly. I dug about 40 feet of ditch 36-40 inches deep in about 3 hours. I did have a problem with space for the tractor as his yard has grown a lot of trees since the leach line went in. The last 10 feet I had to turn the tractor around and dig from the side. That means the stabilizing feet were often on boards that crossed the trench. Not as stable as I would like. How do you guys dig in a tight space??
