Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

Sorry, can't help you this time. I've had experience with both 4' and 5' Bush Hogs, but none with Befco or Woods (just know from this forum that they seem to have a good reputation and from looking at them, they look good to me). However, I think Cisco has provided a good answer; don't think you want to try one in the thousand pound range.

The BB60 weighs in at 550 pounds.
The RZ60R weighs in at 450 pounds.
The RSD60 weighs in at 508 pounds.

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

I don't think you'd have a problem with any of those models and weights. I used a Bush Hog RDTH60 rear finish mower with the weight listed at 536# and it was great. I mowed with the FEL off the tractor, no weights on the front, and in a couple of places I mowed, I would pick up the mower as I came up out of a shallow borrow ditch and turning at the same time. That was the only time the front end felt noticeably light, but the front wheels still stayed on the ground. A rotary cutter is a bit longer out the back, therefore a little more leverage, so I think 550# would be getting very close to the upper limit unless you add some weights to the front end of the tractor in which case, no problem at all.

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

I once got some advice that I thought was pretty sound. Yes, your tractor will "handle" the 60" cutter, but why put extra stress on the unit? He recommended not going beyond 80% of the tractor's PTO capacity. Don't know what that is for your unit, but it's less important with a rotary cutter to have something wider than the wheelbase. Yes, you have to take smaller bites, but you probably could travel faster with less stress on the machine. Just my 2 cents. The weight is another issue and I think that points to the lighter unit. Don't suppose the difference between in weight between the light duty 48 and 60 makes any difference. The medium duty does seem too heavy from what I've heard.

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

I have a 2910 and am running a Woods MD-160 "Dixie" cutter. A couple of years ago Woods redesigned their brush hog line and made them heavier duty and more streamlined. The cutter I have is the medium duty 5 footer from the older line. My 2910 has no problem handling it, but I wouldn't want to put anything heavier back there (it's around 750 lbs with chain guards).

You'll be fine with the BB60. Around here they go for around 1K more or less, depending on whether you get the chain guards (recommended) and slip clutch (depends on your needs). I only went with the medium duty because I'm using mine to push back the woods, not cut fields, and I got a good deal on it from someone who was moving. At around 500 lbs, the BB60 on the back of a 2910 isn't a strain, it's just traction.

There are a few implement lines where the "light duty" are really medium duty, such as Monroe and Lienbach blades. The Woods BB line is definitely part of this camp.

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

Just to add my 2 cents worth. I have been pulling a Woods XT160 Rotary Cutter (5' bush hog) behind my B2710 for four years without a problem. Apparently Woods has changed their line as I am not familiar with the models cited in the other posts. According to my manual, the XT160 shipping weight is 424 pounds. I used weights on the front of the B2710 until I added an FEL last year. 500 lbs should be no problem for your B2910. Go with a 60" width for sure.

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

I have a Fred Crain Agri Cutter 4' brush cutter and it's a dandy! Much-o cheaper than Bush Hog brand with many of the same parts: blades and gear box.

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

I just got a KK 48" rotary cutter for my 7500. That is the biggest it can handle. The 2910 can easily handle a 60". I went with KK to save $. Using it only 10 to 15 times a year on light brush and weeds doesn't justify the extra $400 for me.

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

Cisco,

I recently ordered a Brush Bull 60 along with my new Kubota L3430cab. The dealer had recommended the BB60 instead of the BB600 medium duty unless I had very heavy brush to clear. The BB600 is quite a bit heavier and I didn't go with it because of the weight and I'm cutting mostly grass and weeds. Your comments are appreciated and make me feel better about my decision. Thanks

Re: Woods 48\" Brush Bull

I have a 2710, and am very happy with the KK 60" model. I have gone over a field with head high weeds and even 1-2" diameter brush. It worked great. I also saved alot on the cost over a Woods. If you are going to be using this thing every other day, that is one thing but, if you are like me who uses it once a month (if that), I would go with the KK and pocket the difference. The only thing with the KK is that you wuld have to assemble it. It comes knocked down for shipping and will take about an hour to assemble and put oil in it. If you are not the 'hands on type', go for the Woods, if you are good with your hands get the KK. I'm not sure where you are located but if you got to TRACTORSUPPLY.COM they have a list of stores and prices.
