It was $3700 for the 840. I checked the other Woods dealer in the area and he will match the offer my dealer made only if I get the MD172 fixed first and even then he was not too happy to make that deal but said he would drop the price a extra $100 to get my business. The price doesn't bother me as I trust my dealer as they help me out a lot and give me great deals on a lot of stuff (I never have to pay for anything to take it off the lot, I just settle up whenever). The prices they gave me were the same as the other dealers and I can get the chopper a tad cheaper if I tell them the other dealers offer.

...$1500 trade in on my MD 172 to help me out. .. Now I need to decide if I want the Brush Bull 720 or 840. I will be looking at $1000 for the 720...

Hi Robert...

Ummmm... I want to say this in the nicest way possible...

You can come to Albany area and get the Woods BrushBull 720 Medium Duty rotary cutter without any trade.... > $1800...

I think, I'd have the dealer repair your current Woods @ no charge as originally agreed upon... and take it back home... and sell it privately... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

(That's why the "other" dealer is so willing to match the 'deal'... 'cause' it's not such a good deal for you, after all... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

John, can you get me a quote on the 720 and 840 and I will have my dealer match it. The biggest sticking point that the other dealer didn't like was the $1500 trade value. I know I do not get the cheapest prices on everything but I do know that if anything does happen they will stand behind the items they sell even if the warranty is up. It is worth it to me to pay a little extra at times for that convience but if I show them the price I can get it elsewhere they will come down on the price to make me happy. I only wish Ford was that way, anything happens to my truck that should be covered by warranty and they give me a run around everytime to the point that they tell me it will not be covered just to make me have to call Ford and do a lot of complaining to make them cover it. Oh well. Please if you can get me that price so I can print it or if you have a copy of the qoute please fax it to me at 716-934-0606. Thanks and take care.

Well, I talked to Johns dealer and I got prices of $1975 for the BB720 and $2665 for the BB840. They also offered me $500 for my chopper sight unseen. I then talked to my dealer about a straight deal for just the new chopper and no trade and he gave me the same prices as John's dealer which in the end comes out to a $700 trade value for my chopper. I am not satisfied with those numbers so I have e-mailed woods to see what they can do to help me. I will let you know what they say and if I buy another Woods chopper or change brands as much as I don't want to.

I feel that since this gear box is defective Woods should have to help eat the cost and not me. I buy new equipment and supposedly quality equipment for the reliabilty factor. I do not worry about the price but expect to get 15-20 years out of a chopper with out major problems. To not even be able to get 2 years out of a chopper is sad. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Take care.

They are kinda expensive but have you looked at a John Deere 609 HD rotary cutter or and OFAB Dura-Deck? These are both extreme heavy duty units.

Robert

If Woods didn't seem interested in helping you with this problem I don't think I would buy any more of their products. That said have you looked at Bush Hog brand cutters? I have been very pleased with the quality of their products. I know they are not the cheapest but they seem to be inline with other brands of the same quality and size cutters.

I just got a price on the MX7 cutter from JD and I e-mailed OFAB about theirs. They make some nice cutters from the looks so I will see what they say to my questions. JD only has a two year warranty on the MX7 gearbox. I will probably stop in there tomorrow and ask about the 709HD since I am trying to go with a 7' model. Thanks for the heads up on OFAB, I have never heard of them before.

I am waiting for Woods to respond to my e-mail about my problem. Their response is going to make my decision a lot easier, either I give them a second chance and stay with the dealer I know and am treated the best by or I go elsewhere and get a chopper. I have looked at the Medium duty and Heavy duty Bush Hogs and their prices are not that bad (cheaper then Woods) Problem with them is the 2 year warranty on gear boxes. Given no other choice I might take them over some of the others given the distance to the dealerships that sell them. I have checked on Rhino and am considering them as well. Landpride is out of the question because of parts availabilty, my dealer has never sold a Landpride chopper but sells a lot of their other products but if I bought one I would have to wait for parts if I needed one where as Woods parts are in stock at the dealership.

I am keeping my options open and looking at all the cutters and going from there. It all comes down to Woods response to my e-mail which basicly is the same thing I have told you guys, I am not happy with the MD172 and don't feel I should be punished by giving them a second chance by having to pay full cost to get a new chopper. I am hoping they (if they are a great company) replace my chopper with a new model for free(if you have to wish, wish big /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif), or at the very least, cut me a sizable discount to replace my chopper with a new one. I don't mind paying some because I do want to jump from a 6' to a 7' model but the best deal I can get comes down to I am only getting $700 trade value for a $1700 chopper that looks as good as it did when I bought it a couple years ago and has been defective since I have owned it. I will keep everyone informed when/if I hear back from Woods. Thanks for the reply and take care.

Yeah, the pricing system sucks but I do see what he is doing. He is the salesman and has to follow guidelines and the main boss I have never met sets them. By buying in bulk the BB840 cost my dealer $1400. They want to make $300 on that and my trade so he figures out what he can sell my chopper for and deducts $300 for it and such and such till he gets to the price he has to offer. He is a nice guy and knows where I am coming from and is up front with his numbers even though all the numbers are starting to get confusing if you followed this thread /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

As for shooting for the moon, I would love the 8400 and I did consider it but it would be taxing my TN at times and until I get a larger tractor I will have to stay with the medium dutys. Still no word from Woods yet so maybe they are talking it over. Or they are trying to figure the best way to tell me I am screwed /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Either way have fun John.
