Woods Stump Grinder

   / Woods Stump Grinder #101
I just opened up an old thread here. Great info here and just have a few questions for those who know. Cabelas has a pto stump grinder as part of their WLM products which is made by Woods and according to Woods the exact same thing as the TSG50 just green paint. Cabelas has it on sale now for $3350 which is way lower than my local dealer who wants $4700 for the Woods unit. My Kioti DK50 has one remote. I checked out surplus center for a rear valve that I could use with the grinder. Could anyone steer me towards the valve that would work best for a single rear remote?

This is what I use and it works great.

It looks like I would have to modify my bracket in the rear since my ports are one on top of the other not side by side. What about a cheaper mechanical not electrical version?

1/2" NPT 20 GPM DOUBLE SELECTOR VALVE

I came across this. It looks like it will work unless I am missing something. What do you think?

I have a Woods sg50 and that valve will not work on its own nor do you need one rated for that high of flow. That valve would only control one of the functions, either up and down or the swing left and right. That is a good price on the Cabellla model. See if it comes with the valve "tower" valve mounting bracket.

I don't have it in front of me right now, but you need a valve that looks like what you posted only with two handles (2spool) or a FEL loader type valve, then you can control the up down and swing functions. Maybe one of the resident hydraulic experts will post a couple examples.

Below are a couple examples of style, but I forget some specifics of a single remote as you have and how mine is plumbed off of my single BH line. So due diligence on specifics is required.

2 SPOOL 8 GPM PRINCE MB21BB5C1 DA VALVE

2 SPOOL COMPACT 10 GPM JOYSTICK CONTROL VALVE

I have the FEL type valve and if I had it to do over I would recommend the two single handles for better control of each function. Also, I have flow restrictor fittings on each line and would still consider an adjustable restrictor to feather flow even further.

Btw, your dk50 would run that grinder very well.

I would highly recommend the electronic diverter I posted. Will make motion transitions extremely fast and efficient. I would not want to use a manual lever for stump grinding.

Doesn't this valve just control which ports(cylinder) are used and then I control the flow with my rear remote lever?

TSO, I just read your link more closely, I understand part of the description, but where it states, operated with the tractors lever remote. Could you explain a little further on how this would work with a grinder for example. Can you control speed of swing etc.? Thanks.

My rear remotes are controlled with a lever right next to my seat. Pulling the lever in either direction will switch flow direction. I use this lever right now to control my snowblower deflector either up or down. I just called surplus center and he said that the valve I posted will work. He also directed me to an electric version which I like. I like the one TSO posted also. Just unsure about my ports lining up with it. I asked surplus center about flow restrictors for the hoses and he said he does not carry them.

The flow restrictor fittings came from Woods...you can download a parts/manual on the TSG50 from their site. They were a couple bucks each. Surplus center does have a small adjustable flow restrictor that would work even better.

I see what you are saying, different than my setup. Where will you mount the valve? Is the electric diverter similar to what TSO linked? Maybe with electronic control the feathering or flow restriction will not be needed. I will need to look at these more closely to see if it would work better than a manual valve.

The electric one surplus sells is a stripped down version for $309 vs $500. I cannot find the adj flow restrictors on Surplus website.
