Buying Advice Woodslot tractor? 50-70hp

Someone already mentioned this, but put a winch in the budget if you can. They're hard to find used, but if you're gonna find one anywhere, it'll be on the east coast. I've only gotten to pull a few logs with my mx4700 hst, but it works great. You could buy a kioti ds4510 new for under 20k. That's got quite a loader on it, and a four year warranty. There is a company that decks kiotis out to work in the woods, so they must do pretty good. Keep us posted on your decision.

True but there is Grand L series 30 tractors in that horsepower range.

The nice thing about the grand L 30 and 40 series tractors is that they are smaller in dimension than a full size tractor but have good power and working specs.

I went shopping for a 40hp tractor that would lift a ton on the 3pt and cost under $15K.

I ended up with a 50hp tractor that will lift a ton on the FEL for under $12K.

Keep looking, have the $$ handy because often the best deals go quickly.

Like Newbury, I have a Kubota M4700. I bought it used with 900 hrs for $13k (loader and 4WD, excellent condition). There are deals out there, but like Newbury says, you have to be ready to jump. The M4700 is very simple, very sturdy, and quite maneuverable. I have an Igland 4501 winch, great match for the tractor.

Definitely keep maneuverability in mind for the woods. I wouldn't want a bigger machine than this for our woodlot.

Finspop....I sure wish I could've found a deal like you and newbury. Those 4700's are great tractors but in my area an equivalent would be in the $15-20k range. There's a nice m6800 with around 1000 hrs close buy and it would make a great compliment to my MX but they're asking $20k without a loader. I'm all for buying used but at the time I just didn't have any luck finding anything. As far as the OP is concerned... A new tractor will also give you a good warranty which is worth something as well. Also iirc the Workmaster 65 may not have synchronized shuttle which is pretty handy for woods work with Hydro shuttle or hst being better yet.

I got real lucky. First caller. By the time I got there to see the tractor, he'd had something like 15 calls and was sort of regretting pricing it so low. But he stuck by his word, and I didn't try to dicker, and everyone walked away happy.

And to the OP - remember a tractor without attachments is like a boat without water.

For me that meant the $15K I had set aside for a used tractor (and spent 12K) meant I had $3K left over for implements, such as a much needed chipper, PHD, pallet forks, plow, tiller.

Words of wisdom. I was lucky I already had a few attachments from my old tractor. Had I not I would've either waited out a good used tractor or kept saving for a new one.

a mx4700 or mx5100 will do what you want an more.put R4s an tire sealant in all 4 tires an youve got it made.an its nimble enough to get you in an out of places.
