Work boots

I just ordered my first pair of Chippewa Boots after searching though the many TBN posts on the subject.

I'm hoping I can start using my BX again since having the heel problem on my right foot.

It's probably just the was my foot and the BX23 treadle interact, but my Foot Doc believes too many hours spent on the BX that weekend is the reason for my problem...

Who knows, but I'm willing to give it a try.

For the record, I've been wearing New Balance Trail shoes the last 20 years and I never have had any foot problems... ever. My problem occurred over a 3-day weekend putting 19 hours on my little BX...

Does anyone know if farm stores like TSC or Rural King, Farm & Fleet, etc. can special order size 18EEE boots  ?? Let me tell you these big feet are a pain. I have been wearing redwings for awhile now but would like to find something less costly.

I will ask these stores then next time I am out shopping. Just curious if anyone knows??

I gave up trying to find quality bargain boots long ago. My feet are narrow, so that rules out most brands. Redwings were my favorite until I bought a pair with mocassin toes. My feet bled until I got them broken in (too Scotch to pitch them). Bought a pair of Whites, but they were very uncomfortable. Went back to Redwings. The soles wore out and I discovered the quality of workmanship had slipped. The soles were glued on instead of sewed. That might be irrelevant, though--I have been unable to find any place to resole boots for several years. The latest are from Cabelas. They are as good as any I have worn.

I like Redwings and have had good results with the basic 6" boots. The last pair I got were the 6" and looked more like a hiking boot with a glued on sole and they're falling apart inside and out, the cushioning inside is cheap cloth and the glued on sole that wraps up around the edge is coming off. I have heard rave reviews about Dr. Martens so I ordered a pair w/steel toes, good looking work boots and not toe heavy like I remember the steel toed boots used to be, but I was disappointed when I saw the tag "Made in China", I'll see how they last, or should I say rast, no pun intended.;)

I have a pair of Red Wing Work boots with steel toes that I have really enjoyed but they are wearing out. I don't wear them as much anymore.

I bought a pair of Vasque for a backpacking trip about 7 years ago. I wear them now for a work boot. They are more comfortable than the Red Wings but they are a hiking boot without steel toes.

My son had a pair of Cat. boots he wore to school. The tops look great but soles have broken and are coming apart. He recently bought Rocky's and loves them.

My next pair will be either the Rocky's or another pair of Vasque with a steel toe if available.

Great thread!

Wore Redwings at work for years and years but the best pair I ever had was a pair of Danner hunting boots I bought way back in the '90's. They were without doubt the most comfortable boot I had on my feet. You could wear them all day tramping around the fields or the woods and they kept your feet warm & dry (Gore-Tex and Thinsulate). Anyway, they were just about worn out about 2 years ago so, after hearing a lot of good things about Wolverine Dura-Shoks, I got a pair. They are without doubt the worst boot I've ever had. I can't get those things broken in, can't get the gusseted tongue to lay properly and they are just so uncomfortable. I'll be looking for another pair of Danner's this coming year as I'm about to give up on the Wolverines.

I had a pair of Shechers I really liked, but someone threw one of the away. I threw the other one away, and went to Wally World and bought a pair of Brahmas. They've been fine for a year now and seem to be holding up fine. When it's really cold which is seldom around here, I have another pair with more insulation. I've had the Doc Martin's and found them to break up on the sole way too quick.
