I've been wanting some work lights for my BX, but didn't want to modify the ROPS in any way, so this is what I did...

Materials:
1 - 12v trapezoid from TSC .... $15
1 - 12v flood from TSC............ $15
2 - Stake pockets from TSC..... $2.20 each (sku 21-17015)
1 - 15' roll of trailer wiring ........$5.50
2 - Weather resistant toggle switches... $5.50 each
1 Foot of insulation foam for 3" pipe

Flatten one of the stake pockets and cut off excess steel that is longer than the other unmodified pocket, drill 2 holes to match the other pocket and a third 1" toward the center, centered between the other two (for wiring to be fed through). Run 3 wires through the extra hole in the top flat bracket, down the back of the ROPS to the underside, twist it to be parallel to the bottom center, and then wrap the foam around the rops. Place the unmodified stake pocket around the foam, and bolt it to the top bracket. The fit will be nice and tight, but wont damage the paint or the ROPS. Hook up both worklights to 2 of the bolt holes, the trapezoid up front, the flood to the rear.tie both grounds to one of the wires(es: brown, the hots to one of the others (ex:green for the front and yellow for the rear light). Mount the two switches to the rear cover, and hook the front hot to one and the rear hot to the other. Run the ground to the black wire under the seat using a bullet connector. Run a wire from the red wire under the seat (which is switched to the key) to each of the switches.

See the attached pictures if I havent' been clear, but the system works great! Each switch controls one of the lights and I won't have to swivel one around constantly this coming winter when I'm moving snow around. And I've got less than $50 bucks wrapped up in the whole project.

What I haven't figured out yet is how to secure the wires to the ROPS better than the zip ties..... Any ideas????

Have fun...took me 2 hours to do...

Scott

The mounting of the switches...putting them here eliminated running wire to the dash, yet are very convenient and out of the way...

Very nice install!
Maybe black tie wraps, Thats about your only option to hide it a little. Looks ok now though too.
Any concern on current draw?
How much is ok or too much?

Scott,

Nice job... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

One quick tip, use some silicon RTV to prevent moisture/water entry/damage to back of wiring {into lamp assy} and seal hole in top of rops...

Scott,
Looks great, I only have one suggestion, flip the lights over so they hang down and they will be protected by the ROPS. (See the attached photo of the light on my B2710). With the light hanging down there is less chance of a tree limb snaging it.

Actually, there is no hole in the top of the ROPS, only in the top bracket (the wiring goes aunder the bottom bracket, around the ROPS and up thru the hole in the top bracket). Anyway, I agree, silicon will be used to seal all the holes once I figure out how to secure the wires. Thank you!

Two 55 Watt halogens draw just a little over 9 amps. The circuit seems to be wired to a 20 amp fuse, so by my reconning, it looks just fine....

hey charliebrn,
looks good! i need to think of the light thing also for winter. could you drill some holes and run the wires thru the ROPS? if not, the adhesive backed wire clamps would be the cleanest look.
