The GC2300 is at 58 hours so I dropped by the dealership and retrieved the necessary supplies for the 50 hour service. I was going to pay the dealer to do it but for $300+, I will figure it out on my own. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

All was going great and then I got to the step where you need to remove the hydraulic filter and clean it. This step requires that the right rear wheel come off. Knowing loaded tires are heavy, I only raised the tire a 1/2 inch off the floor and braced myself for impact. As the tire released, I realized that either I am really strong or there is a good reason the rear end is light with heavy loads in the loader. There is no beet juice in the tires, none at all. This is quite a miss considering it is a $300 option I negotiated into the purchase. If I had not done my own service, I would have never known. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I will call the dealer in the morning and schedule the tractor for a pickup. I have the original paperwork so it will not be an issue.

Long story over...on to my question. What tricks do you have for filling the hydraulic fluid in the back? I have a little funnel and tube and it made a mess and took forever. Part of the mess was from the 2.5 gallon container I was pouring from. Too hard to pour small amounts to avoid overfilling the funnel.

Please feel free to share any good stories about doing your own service.

Great question. I've got a 5 gallon bucket of hydraulic fluid for my first change on my 1220. I was thinking of using one of the little hand pumps designed for fluids. The tractor holds around 2.7 gallons if I'm not mistaken, so I'd imagine I'll be hand-pumping for a while! I think I'd rather do that than spill it all over the place, however. If anyone has any better ideas, I'm all ears...

It cost me $130 for the following:

Note: Prices are from memory but are close
Oil Filter $13
Oil $2.75 per quart
Trans Filter $32
Trans oil $2.50 per quart and 2.5 Gallons for $22
Fuel filter $12 (Do no need for 50 Hour)
Air Filter $43 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif (Will keep as a spare as the other only needed to be blown with the compressor)

I still need to do the 4X4 service. I believe it takes 2 or 3 quarts.

I took off the top link and used a automotive transmission fill type funnel with the long extension on it.........

I wanted to use the Permatran III that was in the manual but my local dealer did not have it. $68.00 for 5 gallons which would have serviced the whole tractor including the front differential. I ended up buying Mystik JT-5 sold at Tractor Supply Co. here in Ohio.It met all the specifications of Massey Permatran III and John Deere J20C fluid requirements which was good enough for me . Made by Citgo Oil Co. Was $39.00 for a 5 gallon bucket , oil filter was 32.09 @ dealer and I cleaned the screen in the hydro....... They also had a great price on a Fram oil Filter and synthetic diesel oil. $24.00 for both.

How hard was it to clean the hydro "screen" - is it behind the right rear wheel??

Basically just removed the rear wheel and removed the bolt from the fitting , took out the screen , hit it with some brake clean , and blew the residue off with the compressor and put it back in ..........

I cross referenced the MF (AGCO) oil filter 3609410M1 to a WIX 51360 - what brand of diesel oil (10W30) do you recommend? I am trying to cross reference the hydro filter AGCO # 4265229M91 - no success yet.
