Watching a home brew documentary on the Milwaukee RR. Malden WA had a turntable.

Man, I've got to revive my Google Earth file that has all the turntable/roundhouse locations and convert it to PDF some day.

This photo is from the presentation, “From Montana Roundup to Nebraska Auction by Rail” by Tom Brown. His presentation covered twenty days of photography in the fall of 1975, capturing livestock train operations on the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern in the waning days of cattle movement by rail. I went to work for a car service company in 1978 and thought cattle shipping was long gone. They had to be unloaded, fed and watered every X miles and knew older fellows at BN who did that job.

Here's something railroad that interested me. I saw on display at the tvrm in Chattanooga TN.

Back in the 60's/70's the company/ GE/ had an American Crane on a flat car like that. I was used to tear down/ scrap locomotives. They had like 4 ft long cutting torches. From memory they did two a week. It was also used on derailments inside the plant, loco's and the anneal car. It was an outside job and they worked year round. Burrrr in the winter time.

If I remember correctly it has a clamshell bucket on it. I think I like looking at old railroad equipment more than the old engines them selves lol. Anyways the tvrm museum was interesting quite a few engines, railcars and rr. memorabilia to look at.
