New Holland Workmaster 55 4WD Kubota BX1860
I've just purchased a new workmaster 55 a few days ago and noticed that the engine is very smooth up until about 2400 rpm but gets rough and vibrates at higher speeds. This seems unusual to me since normal operating speed is in this range. I am curious if any other WM55 owners have experienced the same thing.

I bought my wm 55 about 3 weeks ago and have so far put 18 hours on it. I have not noticed what you are experiencing.

Thanks, I didn't think it was normal. My tractor is back at the dealer now, hopefully they will fix it or just give me a new tractor since I only have 5 hours on mine.

/ Workmaster 55 question #4
It will be interesting to hear how they intend to fix it. Please share if you get a chance. There does not seem to be many people on the board here with WM's. So glad I found another one. Have you by chance had your rear tire's ballasted? I was looking at doing this, but wanted to get an opinion from someone that actually had my same type of tractor.

Haven't filled the tires yet but also haven't had a change to use the loader and get it heavy on the front end. I suspect that it would be a good idea as light as this tractor is. Almost wishing I had bought the heavier mahindra but the NH dealer is much closer to me so I got the wm.

I have the case version the farmall 55a mine doesn't vibrate like that either

/ Workmaster 55 question #7
Same here on the closeness of the dealership. I was going to go with the mahindra as well, but the closest dealer is 60 miles away.

/ Workmaster 55 question #8
No vibration in mine. Rears are filled with washer fluid.

/ Workmaster 55 question #9
Without being there to know exactly how the tractor acts it almost sounds like a fuel line blockage causing it to starve for fuel and cut out at higher RPM's.

There are a few Case-IH Farmall 45A and 55A owners on TBN as well. The 45A and 55A are just a few hp different and just a hood, paint and seat different then the Workmaster 45 and 55. My 45A has been great, it is a very smooth running and quiet tractor. It is currently my favorite tractor I own and I look for any excuse to use it over the other tractors.

Got the tractor back today, dealer says nothing is wrong with it. Could be poor quality fuel, I added some power service and it seems to run a little better now. Also got a chance to use the loader for the first time, this thing definitely needs some ballast in the rear. I pick up one load of dirt and had to put it in 4wd to get it to move because the rear tires were spinning.

/ Workmaster 55 question #12
My Workmaster 55 has black watery soot spraying out of the exhaust and all over the hood periodically. It only has 200 hours and has been doing this for the last few months. The service manager at my dealership didn't seem to know what was causing this. They are coming to get my tractor to take a look at it. Anyone else seen this problem?

/ Workmaster 55 question #13
Funny you should mention that. I started mine a couple of weeks ago during a cold spell we were having and noticed the black spots all over my hood. It seemed to have stopped after a bit. Would be interested to hear what they have to say.

/ Workmaster 55 question #14
Will let you know what they come up with. He seemed to think it had something to do with condensation/cold weather but it was happening last summer too. Other than that its a great tractor. Twice the tractor as the TC-35 I traded it for.

/ Workmaster 55 question #15
I have enjoyed mine as well. Have you done anything to yours? Such as a third function valve, etc?

/ Workmaster 55 question #16
No, haven't had the need yet but will probably consider it at some point if I decide to get a backhoe. How bout you? Someone told me you could run a backhoe off the two existing but I have a feeling you need three.

Next spring I will be trying to figure out the draft control when running my three bottom plow. I put 200 hours on the tractor last year, mostly tillage and cultivating but didn't get to play around with the draft control and have never used that feature on another tractor. People tell me it takes some getting used to but once you dial it in it's worth it.

Have WM75, wife runs almost full out in high range, no vibration - also, have rear tires filled, hauled 10ft logs on FEL, no issues - definitely get them filled! I will be cutting hay this year and baling as well w/ this tractor, will see if vibrations sets in then, should be @ 2200-2400 RPM - will update when I can

I haven't done anything to it yet. Hope to get the tires filled this year as well as add a 3rd function. Tired of routing hoses for the grapple!

Fill the tires or you will be straining the front-drive components as well as being somewhat dangerous. Get some heavy implement or weight box on the rear as well. I've had 16.9x30 calcium filled rears lift on my NH FWD lifting logs, so now keep a heavy subsoiler on back as well.
