Thanks for the help. As much fun it is to move stuff with a dozer, it is best if I use the chainsaw and fill over the stumps. Right now it is under a few inches of water. The dirt is needed anyway.

Well if your place is as densely packed with these trees as I've interpreted from your comments, your a better man than I to clea-cut an entire acre with a chainsaw. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It is brush not trees. They are about 10ft tall and form a canopy up above. Once you get thru the first layer (where the sun hits and the limb grow low) you can stand up and walk around. Very few low limbs bigger than a pencil and most of them are dead. I have aleady gotten the outer layer. Now I back up to a clump, throw a chain around them a couple of times (so it kinda makes a noose). Tighten up the chain. Wack'um down and pull them off. If you just cut a few of them, the canopy is so dence they will not fall.

I will try to remember tomorow to take/post pictures on this forum.

Sounds like work to me. I've cleared like you are talking about. If a fellow can handle the work I bet you can save money doing it that way. If you were gonna be renting a dozer just for those pesky stump clumps you might consider a backhoe attachment. We borrowed a little Kioti 3054 and dug out a bunch of stumps around our places last spring and when it left I could've cried. As soon as finances allow I'll be getting a smaller tractor and the backhoe attachment.
Good luck on your clearing! Maybe you could rent some goats.
