The Discovery Channel had a show called Mega Excavators that showed the German bucket wheel excavators. One segment had two of them passing by each other one morning near a small village. Surreal looking watching these two behemoths from a farmer's kitchen window.

My dad worked on a crew that helped replace some of the parts on Big Muskie. He took some pics and some of the other guys took some pics of changing the bucket and changing the giant round rotating tub it was perched upon. Some of these pictures have been put up on the internet by the guys working on the project, and some may be ones not seen before. I was just a kid, but I was there the day the pics were taken where the giant pan was helping the hauling truck pull the bucket up the hill.

If anyone wants to see more pics, let me know. If they've all been seen, I won't re-post old pics everyone has seen.

Good grief Dargo...those are some cool pix. Seeing those CAT dozers pull the turntable gear to its location is like watching ants move a giant beetle to the colony.

Pretty cool, I drive by the Ex-Bucyrus Erie plant everday going to work here in Erie,Pa.I didn't know they built something of that magnitude.....gives me a whole new perspective. The old building now contains about 6 separate companies working out of it...alot of welding.
