Worried about my BX25

Given that its under warranty I would expect them to take care of any problems but for future use I would run it wide open. As it may have gotten hot and finaly found the week spot.

powerstroke444e - Did a lot of snow blowing this morning and had the engine running at about 3000 all the time. And yes the tractor is under warranty and I will be getting back to the dealer asap to get the problem resolved. In the meantime I want to get as much info as I can to help with the process. Thanks.

On my BX24 I had noticed the top end had dropped off some. Had some other issues with a stuck pedal, but I did find a loose nut on the linkage. It is on a ball socket that connects the pedal linkage to the lever. It is fairly buried and hard to get to. It is also one of those place where you have very limited stroke on the wrench. Point is if you don't get up there and look close you can miss it. You also have to move the linkage to check it as it isn't obvious when it loosens up.

Take Care

dougtrr2 - thanks for the tip. If I can't check this myself I will make sure the dealer gets the info. I just emailed my contact at the dealer and asked him to check out this thread.

I'm thinking linkage too and it doesn't necessarily have to appear loose, sometimes these things just need to be tightened. If the mechanic that may not have know what he was doing caught it, he may have adjusted it to some standard spec. rather than your performance expectations.

Good luck! Hope it's that simple.

Harvest Moon - just did a detailed examination of the linkage and took a few pictures. No sign of anything loose. Also no sign that any adjustments have been made here (a thin film of dust not disturbed and tractor has not been exposed to dust/mud since getting it back from dealer). I found the linkage part that dougtrr2 mentioned... no sign of adjustment having been made there and it appears to be tight. Adjustments the mechanic made must have been elsewhere. Will be getting that info soon I hope.

Its a stretch, but I read somewhere, that a restriction in your air filter or air supply plumbing can cause serious performance issues on a diesel engine. May be worth checking out.

My BX25 has lost its "go". This is especially noticeable when in low gear. Let me explain: this was with about 90 hours or so on the machine. I was doing some work for about 2 hours or so moving muck/soil/gravel, using the bucket, from point A to B. That's when I noticed that the speed control pedal (accelerator) became unresponsive. By that I mean when I press the pedal the tractor responds pretty well normally but as I continue to press it the tractor pretty well travels at the same speed. It is very sluggish compared to what it was like. First I thought that the muck was causing the problem or that I got some muck up into the controls. But after checking under the tractor I found no mud and the tractor is acting the same on dry level surfaces. I had the dealer check it out (at the same time I had him install my rear mounted snow blower). I ask the dealer what the problem was and he said that this happens after they are run in for a while. I'm leery about that comment as the performance was totally downgraded from before. My salesman said that the mechanic said that he made a "few adjustments" etc. He also said that this kind of tractor should be run near max rpm. Don't want to go on too much here but, I found that after the problem started I had to increase the engine rpm 400 or more to get any real go out of the tractor compared to what I used before. (For the most part I used to use anywhere from about 2000 to 2400 rpm... not any more!) Anyway got the tractor back from the dealer, complete with snow blower, and when I gave it a test run it was exactly the same as when I gave it to the dealer for repairs. Sorry to be so long on my first post but I am really concerned with my tractor. Would appreciate any/all comments/help.

Looks like I was too quick to judge my BX25. This morning I mounted a GPS on the engine cover and did a couple of "Forward" test runs (I previously checked the GPS against my truck speedometer and found them to be totally in sync).

To make the story as short as possible: For HIGH gear BX25 manual says 8.1 mph - GPS said 8.1 mph (with rpm set to 3400 which is close to maximum).
For LOW gear manual says 3.7 mph - GPS said 3.7 mph.
I next ran a HIGH and LOW gear test at 2400 rpm and got 6 mph and 2.5 mph respectfully.

I emailed my contact at the dealer and gave him the results and suggested I do a similar test at 2400 rpm on another BX25 (the speed area I most used). He said bring the GPS and do a test. Test results on a brand new BX25 were identical to the results on my BX25.

tractorgp was wrong! Only glad it was me and not my tractor.

(But thanks for all the comments and advice from members)

its good to verify the speed settings- however was this verifed after your tractor has been warmed up and working hard for a couple hours ? or was this when tractor was testewd withing 1/2 hour of starting up. I just wanted to be clear on that.

Sounds like you may not have had a problem indeed, have you noticed any change in power to the wheels under load?

Heated up may yield significant difference.

Before I did the tests I let the tractor warm up to "normal" (just idling). The ambient temperature was a degree or two below freezing. I checked the tires (had to add air to both front tires - that's an ongoing problem so the check was necessary to keep the rolling resistance normal). There was some ice on the road so I kept it in 4-wheel drive for the tests. Had the FEL on front and my new B2789 snowblower on back. Taped the GPS on and plugged it in to the 12V outlet. (Thanks to the poster who suggested using a GPS for this kind of test - worked great). I note your comments re working a couple of hours and I will keep testing/observing to see if this makes a difference.
