I can answer the question in one word "noise". If the lower rpms are sufficient for the load and work I'm doing then I run lower than max rpm and save fuel and my hearing. I definitely use less fuel at lower rpm.

HST needs proper RPM range for load applied. Differs from tractor brand to tractor brand and takes into account ambient temperature and other factors. What needs WOT all the time is a race car. Diesels are able to survive under varying conditions so long as proper temperatures and fluid quality/quantity and sufficient clean air is taken in by the engine.

Yes I do run my car at full throttle when I have the loader attached to it so I get max cycling rates when I'm tryin to get a truck loaded faster. I know what everything means on the machine. Was asking a question on others reasoning. No need for anyone to get funny. So the census seems to be to save fuel. Fair enough
