today's mandatory safety equipment require so many sensors and radar tied into sophisticated computers that there is no way to make a simple truck.
Manufacturers will not make a vehicle for this country that does not meet latest safety standards.

Fuel was very cheap before Covid. I buy $15,000 of diesel per year, so Im very aware of fuel budgets for my businesses

I doubt one could be built for that, even without mandates. AS somebody else mentioned, just the running gear would cost more than that. You could always buy a Yugo and cut the back off...
