I see them in ads as well, but I do not think I have ever seen one in person
They are what you would imagine. A heavy duty SxS with a little more creature comforts in the cab. Farmers tried them and quickly realized they aren't intended for heavy work or extensive 4x4 use. There are several in my area. Only one that I know of still running. The rest are parked in some form of disrepair. A failed experiment.
Back to my original question... what would it take for you to buy one?
I'm thinking a street legal "commercial jobsite" swiss army knife type truck with a dumping bed and hydraulics to power some tools that would come in handy for the small team contractor, along the lines of a sweeper or blades for cleanup or snow removal. The bed could be a 6x8' dumping bed that would probably need to come in at a 2 ton capacity for loads of debris or gravel again with small jobs in mind.
Maybe it's a cross between a one-ton truck, a heavy duty dump truck, and toolcat.
Back in 1999 somebody made a comment on our forum that said, "give me a 25hp TLB with a mid mount mower that can fit in the back of my pickup" and a few years later they bought a BX despite the idea that such a combo seemed impossible at the time.
There are on road vehicles and off road vehicles. If you were to build a "do everything" vehicle that checks all the boxes, it will be cost prohibitive.
