Would you buy an old farm diesel tank?

Yes Bob I make a call to my local supplier and he's here normally within a day or two to fill the tank. Off-road diesel is quite a savings over the diesel that I used to purchase a the filling station, not to mention that all I need do is back into the pole barn, insert the nozzle in the fuel tank and fill-er-up. No more messing with multiple 5 gallon jugs or the smell of fresh spilled diesel in the SUV. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How much savings is off road diesel? I am new to all of this and just curious. Is more savings than just the absence of road tax?

What exactly is meant by "my local supplier"?

As far as I know, it is the same price, less the $0.244 per gallon federal excise tax. Home heating oil is significantly less, but I am unsure of the reasons.

By supplier, I mean fuel supplier, home heating oil supplier or number 3, some sort of "supplier" that Mike knows that i don't know about.

I hate to "assume" what he means by supplier. I would guess that if you knew what he meant by "supplier" that you would have answered my question rather than repeat my question.

Bob my local supplier is Campbell Oil. I was told that home heating oil and off-road diesel are one and the same at least in this area anyway. The local supplier charges more for home heating oil (that's where the real profit is made) than they charge for off-road even though they are one and the same.

That being the case if I were heating my home with oil I would be filling the off-road tractor tank and have a crossover pipe that filled the tank within the home used for the furnace. No laws broken in the process.

Thanks, do they sell dyed fuel or undyed?

Off-road dyed fuel does not have the 24.4 cent federal road tax added to it. Depending on the state you live in, it may or may not also have whatever your state diesel fuel road tax added.

Home heating oil (HHO), which may or may not be the same as off road fuel (depends on where you are located and your distributor), should have no federal or state road tax added. If HHO is more expensive than off road fuel then there is significant profit being made.
