Would you buy an old farm diesel tank?

Bob they are suppliers and as such they sell dyed off-road & naturally clear diesel to folks that need it like service stations. Depends on ones needs and usage.

I bought a used 120 gallon tank at auction, took it home and put a few gallons of fuel in it, found a tiny leak from wear in the bed of a pickup. So I then drained the tank and cleaned the area real good, applied JB weld to the leak, let it cure for a few days and I am still using the tank for storage. No problems.
This has been several years ago, and I just leave the tank on a stand, not bouncing around in a pickup box to do more damage to the bottom of the tank. I also use a good filter mounted just downstream from the pump. I also use about 75 to 100 gallons a year, so the fuel stays "fairly" fresh.

The per gallon price here in my area of Ohio is about 50¢ less per gallon than on road diesel - but you have to pay state sales tax (which locally is 5.75%) on the total sale amount (unless you are exempt)

( Bob my local supplier is Campbell Oil. I was told that home heating oil and off-road diesel are one and the same at least in this area anyway. The local supplier charges more for home heating oil (that's where the real profit is made) than they charge for off-road even though they are one and the same. )

Mike, you might want to check this ..... the last time I bought from Campbell (February ?) the price was the same for HHO (K-1 Kerosene) and off-road diesel ....... however they are not the same product, IIRC.

Randy the information that I got came from the driver for Campbell that pumps the fuel. I would think that he would be a reliable source.

Remember the oil that we pumped out of the HHO tank that was at my brother in laws, what color was it?

Yeah ya would think ..... he probably is. Maybe it could vary at any given time, depending on the season, product availability and what they have on hand ?

My info came from sales - when I ordered my last tank of off-road I inquired about getting some K-1 kerosene for the new torpedo heater. (It will supposedly burn diesel but it's supposed to be dirtier and harder on the unit.)

I was told that I could 1. purchase fuel oil (which the person claimed was K-1/HHO), 2. that it was not the same as off road diesel, and 3. and it had a minimum delivery amount of 50 or 150 gallons because it would be delivered on it's own truck - not the truck bringing my ORD.
