I would nuy one with no hour meter in good shape before one with low/accurate hours that the owner was completely ignorant about service procedures. You could wreck a tractor in the first hour if you tried. You can make some very accurate guesses about condition & hours, but, there is really no guarantee when it comes to used stuff, and you need to pay accordingly.

Would you buy a used tractor if you didn't know how many hours it had. Looking for a used tractor to leave at the land to cut the brush 4-5 times a year. Found a Kubota B8200 with loader, 4wd, but the hour meter is stuck at 460. Price is 5300.

I never believe the hours by themselves anyway.. look at the machine condition.

half of the old tractors I buy either don't have proofmeters.. or they don't work... so I HAVE to buy based on condition...

Lots of the old tractors did not have any meter; the old Farmall's didn't. My old Farmall-A though, the manual called out maintenance by the hour.

Had no choice but to go by the meter.

Another thing, is not all meters count very high. I just sold my B8200 Kubota; hour meter only went to 999.9 hours. I got it with a little over 400 hours on the meter 12 years ago. It was already 13 years old; no way to know if it had turned over the hours. It did while I had it; I sold it with 1200 hours. Just like older cars and trucks that would "roll over" at 99,999 miles. Hard to tell with an older car if it had 30,000, 130,000, or 230,000 miles on it...

I just sold my B8200HST. It was a GREAT tractor. Built like a tank, much like the industrial B21.

If you get a B8200, remember, you only have about 15hp on the PTO. It is only a 19hp motor. I ran a 4' brushhog; it struggled in thick and/or wet stuff. Just have to take your time. Realize, the exact same size tractor has 27,30, and 32hp now days. Don't need that power for most stuff; even my B8200 would lose traction before taking advantage of the 19hp even. But PTO HP is nice to have.

My hour meter quit; it was the cable. Popped a new cable on, and it worked great. Was easy to do too.

Awesome tractor. Wish I could have kept it and got the new used tractor.

heck.. i like it when a few non essential items don't work... brings the price down the uglier they are.. especially since body work is mind numblingly easy ( though labor intensive... )
