eBay/Craigslist wow- ****** out there

I'm afraid I don't get the whole "insulted by a lowball" thing.

If someone offers me half of what something is worth, I just say no. I don't find any personal insult involved. It's not like he told me my mother combat boots. He just offered me a deal. The fact that I don't like the deal does not mean the offer was an insult.

So I have my MF GC2300 for sale on Craigslist- guy comes out to look at it and says he's interested and that he will think about it...so he calls me up and says that he can buy a new one for less than I bought mine new and for only 1k more than I am asking for it now...I checked the online equipment houses and my price is spot on if not a little low for the hours (2004-2005 model with only 189.5 hours) and with a FEL, custom toothbar, and 3 lift hooks...

Although I understand your frustration, sellers do have to be realistic in their expectations...maybe you aren't.
The "custom" toothbar and bucket hooks aren't worth much. They might get a buyer to look...but, they would add no value to your tractor if you tried to trade.
Also, like it or not...your tractor is 7 years old.

My sales guy (sells Deeres at a local dealer) told me implements (in general) are worth about 50% of their cost as soon as you drive off the lot...that's true too. I have 4 implements (RFM, Cutter, Ballast Box, and chipper)...all bought used except for the rotary cutter. All were in excellent condition and I paid less then 50% of retail (new) price for each.

I suggest you contact your dealer and ask what he'd give you on trade in for for your Massey-Ferguson. That might be a more realistic selling price.

I'm on CL right now with a rental home... maybe 1 in 10 will keep an appointment and everyone asks what is the least I will take.

Not blaming CL... just seems lots of flaky people have computers...

One called this morning... works for the city and said she would be there at 12:30 to see it.

I called her at 11:45 to let her know I was on my way and she said she was going to look at another one and if it didn't work out... she would get back to me... typical from me CL experiences.

Generally... I will post 2 days ahead my open house hours... those that come... fine and at least I'm not wasting my time on no shows.

As to price concessions... I reply be asking if they have a problem paying the advertised rent... if I like what I hear I will tell them they can take $50 off as long as the rent is in my hand by the 5th of each month.

It's a good strategy to schedule a bunch in a block or at the same time on CL. I find that about 50% are no-shows when I rent my units and so I schedule them in 15 minute increments all over a few hours and it usually works out well. i also find a reminder call the day before puts the no show rate down to about 30%

What I don't get here is....

Why is the 3 asterisks and the word 'hole' are offensive language.

I had one of my threads "pruned" for using the actual word "bleeping" in the title.

I think the censorship here is a little excessive.

I don't really think small children are on this forum and I don't think that asterisked words are going to make them go off using those words.

Just my two bits.

I agree. One of my posts is the one that was removed via "pruning".

I dont remember exactally what I wrote, but I dont recall saying anyting offensive and I certainly didnt use any foul language. And it all stemmed from someone saying a term ( I cant say what it is) but that term in our area means to haggle someone over price. But in the other countries it is a religion.

A little frustrating but it is what it is. I try to play nice here on TBN:D But certain times, certain posts just rub me the wrong way if you know what I mean.

I have not read every post in this whole thread but I think I have the jest of it..

I find it really offensive when I am selling something and someone offers me substantially less than I am asking..you have to go by the body language that goes along with it..I just say " Forget about it " and I walk away when that happens....It is insulting...I especially dislike the ones that offer you less over the phone before they come and even see what you are selling...They seem to not consider the time the seller takes to talk to them, wait for them to show up and then show them the item.

Courtesy and graciousness has been lost in large part.

Everybody is going to take things differently and even differently from different people. With some people no matter what I say they will be offended. Same people would take the same comment just fine coming from someone else.

Everybody probably knows a guy who can 'say anything to anybody' and get away with it. :D

I learned a trick from an old car dealer a long time ago. When he was making an offer to somebody he always said, " I would be a buyer at $XX".

Never said 'its worth $XX' or "I'll give you $xx".

Seems to work.
