Kubota L4330, 6 rear remotes
had WRLong electric third function that was installed along w my grapple. it failed, and I found myself unable to raise/lower the bucket (except through some trickery) and none of my rear remotes worked (including my T&T, and it's not easy to disengage an implement if you can't adjust the top link).

The WRLong valve is expensive to replace/repair and my work-around was to mount long hoses back to my rear remotes ...(I have 6, so I can plug into any convenient, unused one).

I had not read about such failures, but when it happened, I learned of other such failures and have to conclude it is/was not as robust as a normal spool control.

hoped this would catch your attention ...don't yet know exactly how it failed because I haven't retrieved it from dealer (who did the work-around longlines to my rear remote)

The symptoms, more precisely were: no loss of HST (a separate hydraulic pump/circuit, as I understand); bucket curl/uncurl worked fine; bucket would go down if I moved to float position, but not otherwise; bucket would not raise unless I "teased" it while curling; no rear remotes.

Apparently the diagnostic was to join together the "in" and "out" QDs of the WRLong valve...then (as I was told, all else worked properly).

If there is the equivalent of a Power Beyond in the valve, I am guessing it is/was plugged, somehow. Curl worked because (guessing here) the WRLong valve was positioned between curl and lift functions.

I will try and do a better post mortem. Thnx for the links, I have bookmarked them and may install, but for now the longline workaround should be fine, and there's knee-high grass to be mowed.

I realize this is a long shot but my W R Long valve manual notes that it is for intermittent duty only-like a grapple but not a hydraulic post hole digger, for example. If those solenoids are fragile, maybe yours are fried?

well, I am sure you're right about the duty cycle and "fried"...however, I was using it with: (a)grapple, and (b) tree shear ...both intermittent use. Even so, the failure as not (not) fail-soft ...I lost everything; would have hoped it would have failed "open" (or, whatever)

Today I used the long-line work around to one of my rear remotes, but the "human engineering" is off: right hand works the joystick ...and, right hand works the remote, so no way to do a coordinated movement. Might have to go back to electric over hyd.

J_J: not sure I understand the subplate reqt ...and, I don't understand the comment on the solenoid about manual overide. Does that mean I could plumb one of my remotes to be either/or lever or pushbutton ?? That would be quite useful, if so.

A 3ed function valve is a 12v solenoid operated valve.

It is usually inline between the FEL valve and any other valve.

A valve in the curl circuit is called a selector or diverter valve, that lets the curl lever control the grapple.

The subplate for the valve that I posted is required to direct the fluid . the sub plate has an IN and OUT port , and work port A, and B.

When you switch this valve on, the fluid is directed to a cyl or motor.

Magnify the above link and you will see how things are connected.

This is a dual subplate.

As far as manual over ride on the solenoid valve, some solenoids have a manual over ride, a puish rod or screw that you turn, etc.

thnx ...still trying to decide whether to go back to 3rd fn solenoid

What exactly are you trying to do?

depending on the job at hand, from the front qds I run: grapple, tree shear, snow plow.

No problem with using rear remotes and st'd lever controls with either shear or plow, but making coordinated raise/lower, curl/uncurl, open/close grapple movements is pretty much impossible...loader joystick is at my right hand, as are the six rear remote spools, so even if I were coordinated enough to use two hands, I can't do it because of placement(s).

I used the grapple today w the remote and it was very, very awkward and inefficient ...and somewhat dangerous, as well (hard to explain).

It seems like I could substitute the part(s) you pointed out instead of the WRLong valve and use the switch already on my loader joystick although the engineering may be beyond me.

Can you explain what failed on the 3ed function?

Did the spools jam up in one position?

Did you have a solenoid melt down?

Did you have manual control on the solenoid?

Did it fail open or closed.

You do know, that if you shift the fluid to the grapple, nothing else will work normally. Otherwise you can't work two valves at the same time and expect normal functionality.

A FEL valve up stream will also affect the 3ed function by using all the fluid.

No fluid left for the 3ed function until the FEL is in neutral.
