Soundguy,
Oh man, dont know how i missed that.Guess i'll be checking that out too
while i'm "weight shopping"......But wasnt that stuff (non toxic AF) pretty expensive when it first came out? Seems to me it was about 91-92 when it first appeard on the shelves and a guy i worked with back then said it was expensive then so i figure its gotta be pretty salty now....Oh what the hay,
i'm prob only gonna do it once so whats a couple of bucks...thanks.

it's way cheaper than beet juice... and remember.. you will be mixing it with water.. only got to add enough AF to prevent tire from freezing solid...

You may have them confused with a different sect....

You can get RV anti-freeze. That's made from propylene glycol. In the local walmart the Prestone brand is about $4.50 or so per gallon. And it's good to 0F. It's considered to be non-toxic by the FDA or EPA or one of those gov't agencies.
You can also get propylene glycol in various brands at well supplied plumbing distributors. If you buy in qty and then dilute it down to 0F it's just a few pennies more than the walmart Prestone.
Home Depot in NJ here sells some RV anti freeze also but I found it to be much more expensive than the other options.

I think it works out to almost double the cost of WWF with no real benefit to justify the extra expense. It does weigh a tad more but not enough to justify the extra cost.

Get "Rim Guard" beet juice or put tubes and fill the tubes. I would never want to use CaCl2
I love the fact that people think "Rim Guard" is everywhere. The closest I've found it in my area is over 150 miles away. I've talked to some local tractor dealers and they dont seem to be interested in switching from CaCl. I'm guessing they are making money selling new rims to people.

Is not the main goal to add weight?
CaCl2 weighs 13 lbs per imperial gallon.
WWF weighs around 8 lbs.
Put tubes in if you are concerned about rim corrosion.
My 35 year old IH454 has salt water in the rear tires (with tubes) and original rims.

We have Mennonites and Amish of several orders around here. Some of the Amish have headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and strobe lights on their buggies plus diagonally striped reflective tape. The ones that live nearest me can't even use a SMV symbol, just the black reflective tape, and have staggered height kerosene lanterns on the buggy so you can see them coming at night. Those of you who have Amish neighbors -- ask them about the Swartzentruber Amish and see what they think of them. Around here the other Amish treat them like second class citizens.

The more progressive groups can set up a business which is allowed to own things like phones and computers, but they can't own them personally. They can use certain machines in their business or farming, but not others. It all depends on what their bishops rule at any given time and whether or not the individual person cheats on the rules. The guy who runs the sawmill nearest me can have a 200 hp Cummins diesel running the circular saw to make lumber, but isn't allowed to use a chainsaw to shorten the logs because it isn't stationary. The guy who runs the bulk food store can have electric coolers outside the store and computers in the store, but their phone has to be a community phone in a separate building and the lighting in the store has to be from gaslights. The electricity is from their generator, not the grid.

I checked out the -20 WWF at Walmart last week, and it was $1.64/gal. We've had temps as low at -25 at my house, and since my truck will be displaced so my new tractor can have a garage space until I build more garage space, then I'm not worried about being out for a couple of hours, even if the WWF would get slushy, as it won't freeze solid.

I also plan on keeping my eye on the RV antifreeze, because at some point, they should have a fire sale on it - they don't like to keep that stuff on the shelves during the spring & summer, and the local Walmart still had a ton of it. If you can use less of it mixed with water than the straight WWF, then for the right price, it may be a better option.

Yep.. lotsa people are afraid of CACL.. And yes.. it does and can corode rims.. to the point of being useless.. however.. this usually takes decades.. for some reason some people have the notion that if you add cacl they will rust out the next morning.

Ditto on the tubes.. if you have good tubes, and take care of leaks appropriatly and wash stuff down after a leak / repair.. then you are good to go.

When i got my 8n, it had quite vintage tires on it.. same with the tubes.. they had cacl in them... rim was in great condition.. 95% or better.. just handling marks from mounting / dismounting..

Same with my 660.. just the hint of pitting at the tire valve hole.. no biggie.. just takes care and maintenance..
