The throttle on my X324 will not stay where I set it, it creeps down until I notice that I am crawling along.
I took a quick look under the dash, the chock and throttle cables both go into a black plastic box without any apparent adjustments.
Has anybody else encountered this issue? If so how did you fix it?
I really don't want to replace it if it can be adjusted, replacing it will be painful as it is John Deere!

It is meant to be tossed and replaced unfortunately. I have had them apart and am unsure what you could do. They have a little detent and a tiny piece of spring steel that won't stay in place if I remember correctly. They are a bit of a bugger to unsnap from the dash. A look at the new one tells the story. The rest is pretty straight forward. Off with the hood, probably zip off the little exhaust shield for better access.

What ever you do, don't buy the assy from JD, here is the reason;

I had (have?) one and it has been nothing but trouble for years, won't idle properly, lugs, requires constant fiddling just to keep it running. I think it has some kind of California compliant set up that makes it unusable. The deck was garbage, replaced spindles twice. Took too much time, money and effort to keep it functioning. I parked it behind a shed last year and bought a new zero turn.

As I stated, it's John Deere, therefore high priced. What is your other source?
I am a bit disappointed, the mower has around 300 hours on it, my old JD 170 had about 20 years with just normal wear items needing replacement, never the throttle cable.

I've not ever used an aftermarket cable. I replace one every now and then when they break the lever off under a tree or something. It seems the Deere's like a D or L series have the detent that goes buggy like yours did. Maybe Richard can enlighten us on the source and whether or not he has used them.

Check the speed control bellcrank on the front of the engine that the choke and throttle cable fastens to, it could be worn out. I have a 2015 S240 that the bellcrank is worn and won't hold full throttle.

I will check that as well, mowere doesn't have that many hours on it.

Mapper - another thing you could try is to take the throttle/choke assy out of the dash and take it apart and see if there is some way to add friction to the throttle lever.
