Hello everyone,
I bought an X475 that smokes really bad, where is the best place to buy rebuild kit and also what is the starting adjustment air fuel screws on top of carb? Any help is appreciated.

Badger,
Welcome to TBN.
:welcome:

It would help if you told us what engine you have and what year your X475 is.

Are you referring to oil smoke or coolant smoke? Should you be dealing with cylinder wear- there is quite a bit to consider rather than just putting new parts into it.

It痴 definitely oil smoke, I found the parts I need to do a complete rebuild, thanks for your suggestions.

I'm with Tom on this. You know its oil smoke how?

Do you have to add oil every time you use the tractor?

Do you have to add water from time to time?

What do the plugs look like?

Have you done a compression check?

Just throwing parts at it and not being sure of what is wrong is just a waist of time and money. Could just be bad valve seals or over rich fuel adjustment.

Pay some heed to Richard001. He saved my bacon a year ago when I posted a pic of the Kawa engine teardown on my JD 425. I was planning to change out the plastic cam gear for a steel one as I assumed it was plastic and only a few hundred hours since I bought it used. Just had some time and was interested in learning more about the engine too.

In reply #18, Richard raised the question about it already looking like a steel cam. Threw a magnet on it and voila!.. already a steel replacement in place.

One of the many good fortunes of TBN.

And thanks to Richard for stepping in with his expertise and raising the question.

Thanks guys, I guess I should have stated it clearer it was smoking very bad, I adjusted valves, cleaned carb, got it running good but the smoke was horrible. Upon tear down I found the hose for the breather appears to have been unhooked for quite some time and sucking debris right into engine!!!I think I caught it in time to be able to hone it. Hopefully will have it back together this weekend if parts show up

OK you got it I guess.

Let us know how it all works out.

Hi everyone,
I ended up using pistons for an FD750D engine, and rebuilt entire engine, new piston, rings, valves, and the throttle shaft was worn so I replaced carb with a 750 carb also while I was at it. It now purrs like a kitten again and no smoke!!!! I ended up getting all parts through Kawasaki for not much more than the carb would致e cost through John Deere.

Sounds like another TBN success story. Congrats and thanks for the update.
