I have a 2004 X595 Special Edition with 19 hours on it and love it! I have yet to use my 62C MMM so I can't help you out there. Right now I am using a 6 foot land scape rake to clean up after some dozer work and it is working out just fine. The only problem I have had is I wore a hole through one of my hard hydraulic lines (it was rubbing on the front drive shaft). I don't know if a tree root I hit bent it, the factory mounted it too close or the addition of the FEL cause an alignment problem. My dealer covered it under warranty with no questions asked (I honestly think it was my fault). The only thing I would change on this machine would be to separate the FEL controls from the rear 3PH. I have several attachments and can give you reviews on them as well.

Ask me any general or specific questions you may have. I'll warn you now that I am in the process of building a house and am also having lots of computer problems. Therefore it might take me a day or two to get back with you.

Consider the BX2230, it has cruise and you might want the 3pt hitch later. I might be wrong but doesn't the X595 have all belt drive? Some swear by this system but the BX2230 offers all shaft drive. Also the Kubota G2460 comes with either a 24 HP 3 cylinder gas or 21 HP deisel, all shaft drive and 60" mower. ( No 3 pt hitch on this one, its a dedicated mower )Its a GREAT machine for $7,000 vs $11,000 or so for the JD. Not trying to boast on Kubota here, I just think that these are serious differences.

The only belt I've seen on my 595 is on the mower deck.

So your saying that the transmission and deck are shaft driven, with just the blades being turned by belts? You should be able to see the driveshafts.

I am under the impression that many of the JD models are shaft drive units for both the drive and the deck. I think Cub Cadet was too successful with its marketing a few years back and JD had to follow. But mid and large JD garden tractors have been shaft drive for several years if I recall correctly. I also believe that most of their larger garden tractors have shaft drive for the decks, not just the X5xx series units.

The X series tractors have shaft drive to the transmission, and shaft drive to the mower deck, or snowblower. There is a belt that runs from the gearbox to each spindle on the mower deck, like everybody has. The rest of the Deere lineup has belt drive to the hydro transmissions, and belt drive to the decks. LT and L100 series tractors have a single belt from the motor to the deck and spindles,, LX, GT, GX tractors have a primary and secondary belt powering the deck. Deere's repsonse to this system is that the transmission drive belt is only running a hydro pump, no longer turning gears, and therefore the belts are very capable of this, and they talk of 10 yr belt life under normal conditions. Also, we are told that 80% of engine power is actually sent to the deck. (I can't verify that in writing)
Cub has sold against this for years now, but it's still an MTD tractor.

Thanks for setting the record straight on that one. The highest model JD I have personel experience with is the
GX345, which is belt driven even though it has the liquid cooled Kawasaki motor. Let me say again that I think JD makes great mowers, tractors ect. I was pointing out what I thought was a huge difference. Now, if CLIPPED does not need the PTO or hitch as he said, the Kubota G2460 may be his best value.

Well that explains a lot. We have steep hills on our property and have not found one JD garden tractor that could climb them. But the Cub Cadets have never had a problem, the engine does bog down a bit while climbing and mowing at the same time, but every JD we tried died on the hill or shut down the deck or had some other problem, much to the dismay of my neighbors who had some sort of JD superiority complex.

As far as Cub using the shaft drive as a selling point, but still being just an MTD, that selling point has been used for better than a decade, which was before they were puchased by MTD. And Cub Cadet still seems to be a very high quality tractor and seems to be run as the premium division in the same way Cadillac is the premium division of GM.

Cubs 3000 series use shaft drive and attachments for their garden tractors..

This is no longer related to the subject I know /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
