LS Tractor XG3032
Hi - joined to share this, i've been having regen issues with my 2018 XG3032 for the last year or so and have read every post on here from those with similar issues. I've also watched a thousand youtube videos and scoured other forums and thought it'd be good to write it down. This might go a little long :)

Initial symptoms: i start the tractor, the regen light comes on telling me there's soot buildup. cool. Regen temp light comes on, its attempting a regen. still cool. after 10 minutes the temp light goes out and the engine light comes on. not cool. If you continue to run the tractor, the regen light will start to flash indicating soot level are way high. next stage is the regen light and the engine light both flashing, tractor won't go over 1800 rpms - and you have to take it to the dealer. you can't get out of limp without ls software and afaik you can't get that unless you're a dealer. I also have a bonus issue i caused myself which resulted in flashing lights and the tractor locked at 1500 rpms won't go up or down (scary but I fixed it).

The sad story: winter of 2024, was pushing snow and the regen failed (first time). we lost power and i have a pto generator so ignoring the regen i ran it anyway (yeah, i know), it started choking out, wouldn't hold rpms and ended up in limp and I had to send it to the dealer - they picked it up, which was awesome. They forced a regen, got it out of limp, told me i was a dumbass and sent it back. Used it through the spring and summer, it got cold and the regen failed. I immediately sent it to the dealer so they could see the issue (and maybe prove i am not), they hooked it to the laptop saw no code, forced a regen, everything worked fine, they did a full service, sent it back and i'm still dumb. One of the things they said was that these tractors don't like short runs or low rpms (eye roll i've had this thing for five years) but i didn't use it until i needed to push snow in the freezing cold again, pushed snow for a couple hours, the regen kicked in and failed, tractor started choking out.

Diagnostic adapter - this is big, even if you've already figured out my issue from the above, LS makes a specific adapter for their weirdo diagnostic plug (part number 40316401 on their parts lookup). its not listed specifically for the xg3032 but it's the same plug. I hooked that to a nexas nexlink nl102 code reader and got 3 codes. one was that the soot level was high, one that the regen had failed and one that said failed to ignite. the last one was the key - didn't say why it failed to ignite just that it did. the diagnostic plug is behind the panel with the ignition switch btw.

The issue: one of the things that causes the dpf not to ignite is restricted fuel flow. I hear you alaska people out there chuckling at me but i live in virginia and it doesn't get below 20 here very often so how was i to know diesel gells up when it gets cold! So that was the source of the rpms dropping and the tractor choking out, the tractor won't let the regen start if it doesn't have enough fuel flow - a forced regen at the dealer either doesn't have the same restrictions or maybe being in a warm shop helps (although i tried that and it didn't help). Gelled fuel also gums up your fuel filters (there's two, a pre-filter and the main cannister) so even though this last time mine was brand new i immediately froze it up again.

The fix: I replaced the fuel filters, not going to detail on that but do be aware this is a gravity fed fuel system and if you don't plug the line going into the bottom of the prefilter (little plastic thing on the opposite side of the tractor from the main filter) you'll get diesel all over the place. ask me how i know. also be sure to prime the new filter (there's a button on the top) it self primes and clicks while it does it so if your filter makes noise for a bit after changing it, not a big deal.

Bonus issue - if you get diesel in the connector for the sensor coming out of the bottom of the fuel filter and don't get it dried out sufficiently you'll get flashing lights, your tractor will lock at 1500 rpms, won't go up or down and you won't feel great about it. I let the plug dry overnight and it went away. If you have that condition and you haven't gotten fuel in the connector, the code i got was internal communication error, i'd look for loose connectors (starting with the one for the fuel) or frayed wires.

So there you go, i got a oem filter off ebay for about a hundred bucks, a prefilter from amazon for maybe 30, swapped them out, started the tractor, the regen light blinked while the tractor warmed up, the regen temp light came on, the regen ran for 45 minutes while i help my breath, it completed successfully, the main regen light went out, followed by the regen temp light once it cooled down. fixed!

To keep this from happening again i'm going to start putting diesel edt (every day treatment) in my cans when i fill them up and an extra shot of anti gel if its below freezing. The tank on these tractors is uninsulated plastic, only holds about 8 gallons and is pretty much exposed to the elements so i feel like they're are a little sensitive to the cold.

It is a very disheartening thing to have a broken tractor and the weight that came off me when that light went out was big! Hope it helps.
