Tractor
ym2210D
Left R.I. w/trailer at 1:00 am Monday. Arrived at seller's house in N.W. Va. 10:37 Monday. Gave tractor a quick tryout, loaded her on trailer, and had a nice dinner in Mystic Conn. (8mi. from R.I. border) at 8:20 pm Monday!!!!!!!

We got 8mpg w/my F-150 with 5.4 v8 on the way to Va. with unloaded trailer. Stopped for fuel four times. On the way home, towing 3200+ lbs of tractor/loader/bush hog (in addition to the 2,000 lb + - trailer)....we got FOURTEEN mpg and stopped for fuel ONCE!!!!!!! What gives? (Baffled) All the years I've had diesel trucks, and never towed anything very far, and now, when I needed to tow 1000 mi. round trip, I have a gas truck!! Oh, well.

Got back to Block Island this morning at 11:00 got her off the trailer, re-installed upper part of ROPS (disassembled to fit under ferry ceiling), and got ready for some serious seat time (!).:licking::thumbsup::laughing:

I brush hogged two small fields, with a lot of trees and other impediments. The tractor really shined!!! Much quieter than I expected, never bogged down in thick stuff, has an amazingly small turning radius.......really even better than my best expectations. The only other tractor I've ever had (a 25 hp Mitsubishi) could not hold a candle to this Yanmar. I think I made a great choice getting the 2210D. And dealing with the seller couldn't have been any easier.

The prior owner warned me the engine could suck air if used in hilly terrain with less than 1/4 tank. Sure enough, just as I had started on a third,, larger field.......the engine lost RPMs. I was baffled that I couldn't get fuel to come out of the injector supply fittings I had cracked.......until I figured out I had to give it some throttle to get any fuel!!! She fired up instantly, and I will no longer let the tank get low!! Very simple to prime after the big Yanmars (240 hp) Cat, Cummins and others I have dealt with in boats.

To sum it up: my new 2210 is a SWEET ride!!!! I am loving it!!! I will be returning soon w/more dumb newbie questions.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Steve
P.S. will get some photos & post em soon.....

congrats storm on your new Yanmar. I have a 2200 and never regretted buying it. Although it is smaller and lighter than what I am used to, it has it's place in the line of chores as well and is a good tractor by all means. Wouldn't give up my Ferguson for it, but wouldn't want to give it up either.

Good luck and remember to be safe with it.

All right......here's some photos. I "hogged" everything that isn't lawn today. There's lots of hills, some steep. The back meadow (around three acres) hasn't been mowed for years & years. Blackberry brambles and saplings 4-5' tall mixed in with the occasional rock to keep you awake!!! (ouch!). Long story short......I went from novice to beginner/intermediate in about four hours. The 2210 is a BEAST. I can hardly believe how strong a machine it is for it's modest size.

Watch mowing those several year old blackberry bushes, you may come out in the mourning and find a flat tire. i did, twice when i first got mine and bushhogged 4 year rough. went through 2 tubes both in the same tire.

After being used to seeing the rice tires on them, those things look bald!

Maybe because.....they are :) They could be the tires that the tractor left the factory with. I wonder if I can get a tire with an "industrial" and not agricultural tread in this size? She still went up the steep hills in 2wd, I only had to use four wheel drive once or twice. It was more than a little scary until I got used to it. I simply made sure I was going as straight up and down as I could, and make sure I was in a low enough gear that the engine didn't lug.

Wow!! Nice tractor, but what I am wowing about really is the open space. Us parochial Westerners think the East is all built up with no where to play on your tractor - 'specially tiny RI. Thanks for straightening us out:thumbsup:

Nice tractor. These Yanmars sure are great when mowing. I have mowed some pretty rough stuff, scotch broom, small trees, all sorts of things.

They still have as much tread as many older tractors that you see around. I got a buddy with a tractor that has almost no tread except on the sides, the tops are wore smooth. But all he does is mow grass with a finish mower so he dosent need much traction.

But it does make me wonder how they wore those rice tires out. They must have drove the roads a lot or spun a lot, i dont see wearing them out that easily as tall as they are. Hoye has used rice tires if you want to get some more r-2s. California got american ags for this 186 or whatever his small tractor is so you may check with him on that.

We may be the smallest town in the smallest state, but we do have plenty of open space!!! (Some VERY expensive space!! :)

Gorgeous country! Gorgeous tractor too.

Somebody mentioned my tires. All were on the Yanmars when I bought them but they are all standard US sizes available from Firestone Ag etc. But I don't see any reason to change yours so long as you can climb those slopes. I assume you don't intend to plow or deep-rip going uphill. Soundguy once posted that the good ol boys running the American antiques that he likes, don't replace tires until a couple of plies of cord are showing.

Do you have the rear tires (only) swapped around for maximum width? And maximum water/antifreeze ballast in them also? Considering your side slopes, I would. (and did, here). You never know what's under the grass - maybe a badger hole or something, on the downhill side.

I wish I had a 2210D like that. Its downshift-while-moving is far better for sloping ground compared to making a full stop at every shift. You did good!
