I saw whole Boston Butts yesterday for .99/lb, marked down from $1.59/lb. I can almost always find whole loins for under $1.50/lb. Rib slabs are usually higher, but the western/country ribs are often under $1.50/lb.Pork increases slightly over it's ridiculous prices now. And pork use to be the CHEAP white meat. Pork will take nearly 10 years to recover.
I'm either about the same overall, or maybe a little less. But I don't shop from a list of must haves. I go in with an open mind and if brand QQ is a better price than Brand A, I'll buy that. I wander the aisles and compare. Sometimes I even find things I've never tried before. My wife tracks this, looks like we spend about 50% more than pre-covid for the same stuff.
I have seen some prices at least up 50% in the last year by us for eggs, milk and other goods.
For one thing, I don't shop big name stores. I shop second tier chains or third tier independently owned stores. In some places they might be IGA or Spartan, in others they might be Food Giant or Winn Dixie. In some regions, the big name chains operate second tier discount chains. They stock everything the first tier stores do, but at deep discounted prices -- probably clearing overstock stuff. I can almost always find 'store brand' bread for .99/loaf or less right next to the name brand stuff that runs $2.50/loaf.Where are finding whole wheat bread for 75¢ a loaf? Haven't seen it that cheap in decades.
Haven't noticed beef prices to be that much higher than a year or so ago, but I am seeing chicken on sale for prices higher than "regular" price a year ago.
I've been in Aldis a couple of times and found large eggs for .50/dozen and whole milk for .99/gallon.
