Yes, friend at box store told me it was going to be their best year. But still having trouble hiring. No one wants to work when they can get money for staying at home. Almost all the stores here have help wanted signs up. Rural King in Huntsville has now lowered their hiring age to 16. Different kind of year.

It is similar here... the added amount was substantial for many and to much of an incentive for criminals to ignore... it got so bad the California simply shut down the entire system for a time out.

Lumber at the Big Box also seems to be of lesser quality...

Showing my age but 2x4x8 lumber back in the mid-80's was on sale for as cheap as 69 cents... remember costing out a garage build and small home addition... drywall, plywood, etc... a fraction of what it costs today... I was earning $11 an hour in a Union Shop and today minimum wage without mandated benefits is $15...

I sure do miss the Green Pressure treated fence posts with the 40 year warranty from the 1980's... put in a lot of them and not one has gone bad...

That said... my Apple //e with accessories was over $3,000

I bought my tablesaw in 1985 and I would buy 1"x2"x8' just for the fun of cutting something. They were cheap back then, something like .32 each and on sale at times 5 for a dollar..... and they were straight.

The Red Oak is OK as far as cutting, but I'm finding I have to predrill at least some holes. It'll take a 1 1/2" wood screw OK, but those self drilling timber screws won't pull in tight even with an impact driver. I tried two 3 1/2" timber screws pulling a 2x6 into a 4x4 and neither would pull in. I had to back them out, predrill and clamp the pieces together to get them to drive all the way in.

Also, my nailer won't drive a 3" nail fully flush. I have to hammer them home.

Oh, and yeah, they're heavier too.

I was just at a box store a few hours ago, a 2x4x8' was $5.39 ea...and they were nice 2x4's...

Lots of bld. supplies there, what ever you needed, just not cheap...

Yep, I saw them for $5.52 today at Menards and they have over 8,000 in stock at that one store.

Just looked in my garage addition binder... I picked up 2x4x8 for $3.32 on June 26.
