Ford 8N looking to upgrade!
I am looking to purchase either the Yanmar 1401D, 2010D, or the F155. Any information or opinion will be appreciated. These are reconditioned tractors with 4WD and a loader. The 2010D is priced at $6500 with free delivery and the 1401D is priced at $5000 with free delivery. If you know anything about these models as far as parts availability, dependability, etc., please respond.

bluerockcracker,

14 to 20 PTO HP. All very good tractors, but what will you be using them for? And How and where have they been reconditioned? Hours on these tractors and your general location may also help in determining there worth. Just a bit more information will give you loads of response.

Welcome and regards, Mark

I am now considering only the 1401D and 2010D since the F155 has no loader. I will be using the tractor for snow removel and gravel grading on a steep driveway. I also will be using a 48" tiller. Other than those chores, it will be used for miscellaneous hauling and digging. I will not be using it for mowing. The 1401D is priced at $5100 and has 29 hours since reconditioning. The 2010D is priced at $6500 and has 12 hours since recondtioning. I drove both of them and everthing seemed to worked fine. The 2020D had more of a high pitched whine which was attributed to a thicker hydraulic fluid than we need in our climate. These tractors were reconditioned in Viet Nam. I live in Ohio about 60 miles southeast of Columbus. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

It would be worth your time to do a search in this forum to learn about Viet Nam reconditioned tractors. Some buyers have been happy, but there are some caveats. Also check the current thread about an FX24D.

Lots of stuff written about the Vietnam rebuiilds. Might be ok, but you can't tell.

Honestly - my opinion is, a four wheel drive Yanmar, with a FEL, truly reconditioned or with very low original hours and including free delivery for the price that was quoted you, is impossible to match. Good luck, Mark

****edit**** I meant that it would be impossible for me to match.

Bluerockcracker,
If you're in Se Ohio, it may be worth your time to run over to Blanchester, OH and see Wayne at Little Miami . His tractors are not reconditioned in VN, just a very nice selection of used Yanmars. His prices may be higher than the ones you've gotten, but I think you'll get a better tractor....my opinion only. Besides, you'll have a place to get parts after the sale too. If you stay with the YM series, parts are easier to find, although the F series owners aren't having that much trouble it seems.

Thanks for the reference, Jerry. The gentleman and I have been in touch, by email and phone. I suggested he post here to ask 1. about LMTC, and 2. about the recons. I cannot come close to the price of the recons.

I am curious about the hours though...we usually hear an hour or so since the recon. I wonder how a unit gets 29 hours, or even 12, from the recon? Is it being used somewhere?

Curious also if these are new Koyker loaders, and I'm not sure I asked this gentleman that question. If they are, then they are asking below my cost for the tractors.

<<The 2020D had more of a high pitched whine which was attributed to a thicker hydraulic fluid than we need in our climate.>> Anybody else think this is the seller trying to sling a line of _ _? And if...IF it was true, why was such a fluid put in it and why hasn't the seller changed it? One can only assume he also doesn't correct less obvious problems if he becomes aware of them.

Maybe a tractor at 29 hours was returned to the seller as "unsatisfactory"? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

LMTC, Yes, I was very curious about this hydraulic fluid. It would seem that it is either the wrong viscosity hydraulic fluid, the wrong type of fluid or a pump ready to fail. I can't think of any middle ground here.

Regards, Mark
