I think lots of water. If I run the tractor for 30 min, the recovery bottle will be empty. When I drain the oil the first few oz's. will be water.
When you say pressure test, I have not but it seems that even after the tractor has cooled down water from the radiator is still seeping into the crank case....is that possible???

If you used permatex on the head gasket, you might have blown the gasket again. A head gasket should be dry.

When I built race engines for my race car , I never put anything on the head gaskets. I don't know of anyone that puts sealer on a head gasket.

Wow, if you're losing that much water, it should not be too hard to trace the source...........

Go back to the basics then, a pressure test is easy and might give you a quick answer.........a tester can be had pretty cheaply from the auto parts store, and some will lend it to you for a returnable deposit.

You might pull the oil pan and inspect the bottom of the sleeves. The machine shop would probably have noticed a cracked head, and a cracked block would probably show from the outside.

I did pull the pan while the head was in the shop. I pulled the rod caps, just to check and see how much wear...the caps looked good, still clean and smooth no wear. I looked as best i could and did not see anything abnormal???

i agree that if the block was cracked, i think i would see something. I am going to pull the head again this week-end and see what the gasket looks like.

Hind sight is 20/20 but, this time I will inspect it better.

Thanks

When you replace the (new) gasket again, I assume you are aware to torque in increments of 1/3, if 120'#, go 40, 80, 120, in proper sequence, clean, and dry. Unless it's the gasket again, I'm stumped. You probably would have noticed leaking sleeves.

I didn't know the 1/3, although i started at 50, 90 and finished at 127. i did run it for about 30min, pulled the value cover and retorqued the head???

Could the top of the block warp???. I will check it all this time.

Thanks again.

I would pull the valve cover and oil pan, install a pressure test kit on the radiator , pump it up and look for leaks. That should allow you to see leak on top of the head, (often overlooked by even the best shops), seals at the bottom of the sleeves or an internal block crack.

That's about as close to 1/3's as you can get without a calculator.
