Hello Folks,
I am back at gathering more info to try and solve my Head Gasket?????problem.
i am still geting water in the crank case....is that always the head???
i think i will have to pull the head again and see if there is any sign of water trails in the gasket.
any other ideas before i start over.

thanks for all of your help.
Dave

Could be a cracked block or a rusted out cylinder sleeve, (I think they are wet sleeve), allowing water/oil mix. You are not, by any chance, storing the tractor out in the weather, are you?

Norm,
I keep it in my garage. What is a "wet sleeve".

I have only read about them, but in some engines apparently the cylinder sleeve is the only thing separating some water and oil passages in the block, and if it fails, those passages can get together. Hopefully someone with experience with wet/dry sleeves can help out here. The reason I mentioned the storage thing is that almost always when a tractor is left outside routinely, it gets water in the crankcase.

Thanks Tom, I should have read all of the posts before replying.

Sounds like it might have a crack to me, I'd pull the head and take it to a good machine shop and have it magnafluxed for cracks.

Also carefully inspect the bores for any sign of water intrusion and/or cracks.

Lastly, did you turn the engine over while the head was off? If so, one of the sleeves might have moved up and lost it's seal at the bottom - I don't know if they use o-rings or what, some just use a paper gasket, some a copper ring...........

Thank you guys.

I did put perma tex (orange) on the gasket and block before putting the head on. I did turn the engine over when the head was off.

I had the head magnafluxed. they said no cracks, they milled the head, put in new valve stem guides, re seated the valves and checked it all out. The machine shop said it looked good. Although he said he had to take .010 off the head to get it straight, he siad that was a lot for such a small head???

any other ideas???

thank you.

Let's start from the basics. Are you loosing water from the radiator?, or maybe I should say, how much water is in the oil?: just enough to make it creamy, or lots.

If you are loosing from the radiator, how long does it take to loose how much?

Have you pressure tested the cooling system?

Post back and we can provide some guidance.

"I did put perma tex (orange) on the gasket and block before putting the head on."

If you used permatex on the head gasket, you might have blown the gasket again. A head gasket should be dry.

I have never put permatex on one before . I put K&W copper coat gasket compound on they . It contains real copper in it and it want leak.
