Yanmar 1610D Front Knuckle Seal Replacement Question

/ Yanmar 1610D Front Knuckle Seal Replacement Question #21
I can't remember the quantities but I do remember they were not quite like the manual called for both on transmission and front end. Go by the dip stick and you should be good to go.

I will keep that in mind and check the fluid level frequently over the next few weeks. The manual I have for the 1610 list the capacity of the front gear box/axle as 3.17 quarts. It actually took a little more than that to get it close to the full mark on the dip stick. Maybe a little less that 3.5 quarts. I had a similar experience when changing the hydraulic/transmission fluid. Is that common?

Either the manual is not for a YM1610D, or it was not written by Yanmar. In any case, fill to the full mark.

Monte,

Thanks for the pics, looks straight-forward enough for a novice like myself. Im gonna try it this weekend if I can get the parts in time.

Let me know how it goes. Just be sure to be SAFE! Make sure the tractor is well supported with jackstands. Don't let the knuckles fall on your fingers. They are heavy. If your tractor has a front end loader, be sure it is all the way down. You don't want any unwelcomed surprises.

Thank you all for this thread. And especially montehill for the pic's and graphic detail on how to accomplish the knuckle seal replacement. Has any one needed to replace the axle seal yet? I bought those also, not knowing and now they will be on standby, just in case. So far we put a full gallon of 80/90 in and still need some more. We did not drain the center plug. Just the two under the knuckle housings. Also a heads up, My neighbor bought his 1610d and there were a lot of loose bolts on that thing. A lot of his leak problem was after taking the (front tires) off and seeing the six bolts (on each side) were loose. It only had 20hrs on it. So heads up if you are going to buy one, or have just recently done so, look them nuts and bolts over real good... Thanks again all.
