Ok pete I've finally got into the tear down. The only problem or really I just ran out of day light. But I'm trying to remove the injector pump and it seem like it being held by something. What's the trick? Dave

Ldavid, I just have the manual, and have not torn one down before. But will look and see what the manual has to say.

be careful! i think thats the governor rack, apparently they are very fragile. some springs and the like have to be removed before it will come out. PS i have never pulled one out either

Haven't removed one either but I believe the rack has to be slid all the way one way, not sure which way, to allow it to come out.

yes theres a trick; I read about this somewhere; google "yanmar injector pump removal"; It took days of fiddling (sorry) for the guy to get the trick in an engine overhaul; i recall it had something to do with the govenor mechanism / linkage; post it when you get the pump off; preferably with a couple of pics; the challenge will be to not rewin the camera with grease/diesel in the process

Iv got a ym 180d 3 cyl 18 hp 1989 that Im looking for a service manual for too

... I have a manual shift; I think the 186 was a power shift; very similar otherwise; Im trouble shooting electrical issues at the moment and the owners manual is too general to pinpoint the problem.

Ok Guys its been months now I have finally got the motivation I need to continue on the tractor. I found the problem. The number 1 cylinder had a broken ring. So I ordered all the parts for a rebuild and should be up and running this next weekend. keep you posted.
