/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I have noticing that my steering is getting alittle tight. I removed the linkage from the side and checked just the steering box. It seem to be the where stiffness is coming from. What can I do . I didnt see any grease fitting, Any ideals I did see some type of screw on the right side of the steering box.

Tim,

The manuals don't give much info on steering, except instructions on how to tighten.. dosen't sound like that is your problem. I haven't added any fluid to the gearbox on my 2000B yet, but I suspect it is through that little plug in the front of the box, you know, the one you can't get to. Check out the Steering Shaft Fix article on Hoye's site. If you want, you can PM me and I will send some scans of the service manual for the YM2000 steering.

Thanks Bruce, This morning I am to look closer at the steering box to see about checking it out.If I did check out Hoyes section on steering if you have a better break down on the steering that would probally help. Thanks

Ok , I now removed the gas tank and got to the allen screw where you can add fluid. I saw what appears to be grease. I probed the box with a small screwdriver. seem to possible have air pocket or dry area. so i added 80-90wt fluid now I can see the fluid move as i move the wheel back and forth. but still seems tight. I have the tractos ft wheels off the ground. and can still hear a small squeak when i turn the wheel. it is smooth and i can turn with one hand but seem tight. NOW WHAT Help Tim

Either keep working it and hope it will free-up, or take it apart and see what the problem is.

You may have bad bearings or the steering shaft may be rusty. If it doesn't improve, you should tear the steering box apart & fix it before more damage is done.
