I have a yanmar 2010 and was wondering if it can handle a 5ft bush hog and 5ft tiller without tearing it up. Ive used both and it seems to do ok but wanted to see what yalls thoughts was.
Yanmar 2010 can it handle it?

It shouldn't tear anything up, as long as you're using them responsibly. I suspect the front of the tractor will get pretty light without some ballast weight on the front. Seems to me the limits you'll find are weight and (possibly) power. A 4' version of each item would fit your tractor better, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the 5'. You'll need to use a low gear using either implement in heavy conditions, but you should be fine.
Here's the "real world" way to judge the strain on your tractor. As your bush hogging or tilling, if your tractor is making constant black smoke, you're overloading it -- and it WILL overheat under a sustained overload. Use a lower gear or take less of a bite. Puffs of black smoke are just fine, but not sustained. Stay in a gear or an RPM that keeps the exhaust colorless, and you should be fine.

It will be slow going, but it should be fine. My Grandpas Kubota L2550 which was 28 hp pulled a 5 foot bush hog fine. I could usually run in 4th gear occasionally having to slow down. I usually had to slow down because of the terrain not lack of power. It pulled a 5 foot tiller pretty good, but I had to stay in 1st or 2nd gear.

That was gonna be another question i had was whats the correct rpm for the trractor? I dont want to over rev it. I havent noticed any black smoke but i havent really been watching either. the reason I bought the 5ft implements was I think i got them for a steal for 500 for both of them!! Ive got 2 suitcase weights on the front so its ok on the front so far.

Wow. Yes, that's a very good price, assuming they're in decent shape.
On your tractor, the power band will probably be between 2000-2800rpm. Does your tach have any markings to indicate what your PTO rated rpm is? (Mine is 2580) Try operating in the 2200 2600 range. Just see what sounds and feels right. You really don't gain anything by running faster than the PTO rated rpm. In fact, most implements don't like to be run faster than 540.
Look for PTO rpm markings on the tach.

The bush hog is in great shape and the tiller needs some tines replaced but it works as is just an older model. Theres no markings on the tach that ive seen i will have to check again and make sure.
What would u say feels right? Just kinda smooths out in at a point or what? Can u describe? Im new to small tractors and only have a limited knowledge of big tractors

My Kubota hits PTO 540 at 2700 engine rpm, but that is faster than average. Does your tractor have a tach? If yes I would run it about 2500 rpm. That is not a set in stone measurement, you can adjust it for different work.

It will have a tick mark on the tack. I dont remember is the 2010 the three cyl or the two? My ym2000 is at PTO speed around 2200-2400rpms.
I own both a 4 ft and a 5ft if runs both fine. If its very tall and or thick the 4footer allows faster ground speed where i have to slow up a gear or take a 4ft bite with the 5footer.
Spinning the 5ft without cutting grass takes very little horse power so just take 4 foot bites if you find it cant handle the full bush hog width...only that first pass will be full width and at a slower speed. You already have it and got a deal on it just use it.

First off... NOT wide open. A good starting point is to find out what wide open is on your tractor. (probably 3200ish) A good operating rpm is around 15-20% less than wide open.
For most small 3cyl diesels, you can't go wrong with 2500 rpm as a steady working rpm. If you're working a little lighter and wanting to take it easier, try something like 2200 or lower.
With more "seat time" on your machine, you'll get a feel for what "feels right" for the conditions. Without knowing/seeing your tractor or tach, it's hard to say exactly...
Do you have an operators manual? Or can you buy/download one? It would tell you everything...

No i do not have manual yet i found one over the weekend but gotta get it ordered. And it is a 3cyl diesel. Ive been using them at about 25-2800 rpms but to me it does seem like the bushhog is screaming at that rpm but as said im new.
