No i do not have manual yet i found one over the weekend but gotta get it ordered. And it is a 3cyl diesel. Ive been using them at about 25-2800 rpms but to me it does seem like the bushhog is screaming at that rpm but as said im new. Thxs for all the help folks.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Get that manual and read it from cover to cover. You'll pick up lots of good info.

you have a multi speed PTO ! You should be in 1 st gear on the PTO @ around 2200-2400 rpm .that RPM should get you around 540 in 1 st PTO gear

If you don't have 1 already,, You need an over run clutch on that PTO shaft B-4 using a brush cutter

I have been using 1st on the pto. But what r the other gears for? And whats a overrunning clutch? And should i use it on the tiller also?

pto speeds given in parts manual are 566. 765, 978, 1163 rpm. Although not stated I believe this to be at 2500 engine rpm as that is the speed the hp rating is given. 540 pto rpm would be achieved at 2385 engine rpm in first range, 1765 engine rpm in second range. Nothing wrong with using 2nd range as long as you are not lugging the engine. :2cents:

Your tiller would not require an over run clutch. This is an over run clutch. Yanmar Tractor Parts OVER RUNNING CLUTCH- QUICK DETACH - SALE! Click on Hoye's page and it will tell you how the clutch works. You can buy these in many places. I personally would recommend the button release such as Hoye sells rather then the type that is attached with a roll pin. If you never plan on taking it off the roll pin type would work great. I never used the over run with my tiller because of short drive shaft distance. It is really not needed with a tiller.

Well i bush hogged some pretty thick weeds and grass this weekend and it handled it ok. Bogged down some but i never seen any black smoke even when it bogged down really bad. Should it be blowing black smoke when it bogs down bad?

My experience with diesels has been black smoke if bogged down. Unburned fuel from speed loss, governor opens up, speed can't be attained, so black smoke out the exhaust. I don't think I would worry if you don't have black smoke.

If it was bogged and rpm's dropped you should at least get grey smoke and if you dropped to say the 1500-1700 rpm range from 2000-2400 rpm you should of been rolling coal!!! That fuel is not burned and leaves as black smoke! Even modern equipment when throttled up or bogged will blow black a bit.

Maybe you didnt really bog it? Cause if you bogged it you had e to blow black as your not burning all the fuel being dumped even as the governer pours more fuel to it to keep the rpm up. Less rpm but same fuel means raw fuel has to be spent out as unburnded fuel which shows up black.

Well it was enough bog to make me pull it out of gear acouple times. Im thinking that was bogged down pretty good. Is there maybe something that could be wrong making it not throw extra fuel at it?

Can't tell from here. Did your governor open up when the engine started pulling down? Even if the governor doesn't open up fuel will become rich when rpms drop. Try the foot throttle when she starts bogging down and see what happens.
