On my first YM186D I turned the exhaust horizontal to the front, with the tip pointing outward, to lower the tractor profile so I could mow under orchard trees. Always smelled exhaust. I think it was drawn into the radiator and fan.
When I got the second YM186D with loader, I left the exhaust upright because the loader arm shields all but the top few inches. For some reason this works better. I nearly never smell exhaust now while operating the tractor.
rScotty did you post that you ran with just vertical conduit pipe, no muffler? Isn't that deafening? How's your hearing now?
