If your guy wants a block for a 1500 call Paul Seago at 256-773-9951.

I just got off the phone with a person named Rob at the phone # you gave me (Paul was busy with a customer). I explained the situation my friend finds himself in and He said he could get him a used block for $600 and no guarantees. I told him Mr Day was looking for new and Rob said they were not available at any price. Thanks you for trying to help--Ken Sweet

I had a person contact me recently that had a cracked block in a YM1300D. Same problem, they did not check for anti-freeze. I had a block located in less than an hour. That tractor spent a day in our shop and is now happily putting along for the customer.

It seems that parts are very available for most models. A good gray market dealer will know what models are the best and know where to get parts. It astounds me that a lot of people sell these and have no clue as to where to get parts or how to service them. Then they get cold feet when the first parts challenge arises, lose their confidence in the product and then bail out, abandoning their customers. Then guys like Wayne, Len, Danny, Aaron and others step in and take care of them, despite the fact that they made nothing on the initial sale.

Why should a "used tractor lot" be able to supply parts? I have bought several cars from used car lots, and they don't have so much as a fanbelt.

I feel if a "dealer"is selling a product that may need parts support & that support is not readably available , it is in his best interest to at least know where parts are available & give the customer that info. I have a lot of dealers that give their customers my contact info , so they have someone to contact if they do need parts. I don't think this compares to a used car lot. Most car brands have an obvious dealer network where parts are available, plus there are all the aftermarket auto parts stores.

I totally agree. In my opinion, that solves the problem.

I agree that in the best world, yanmar would continue to support tractors, grey market or not. But the lawyers have sued to the point that selling parts allows them to be sued in the US for these products. That leaves the grey market with no company supported dealer network. Sellers come in all shapes and sizes. Some try to be full service shops with repair and parts support. Others try to just help those who buy from them. Finally there are those who just sell like a used car dealer--some saying just go to a JD dealer for parts, some say nothing. Others give names and addresses of dealers who might provide parts.

There are models easy to get parts for and models that are not so easy (some are even orphans). Sellers who provide no support don't care if they buy an orphan and may actually buy those preferentially because they are cheaper. Dealers who are quality dealers don't buy these.

Of course, the dealers who sell parts to everyone often spend lots of time searching for parts that they never end up selling or make little money on. Of course the cure for this is to charge an extra fee for searching for a part for customers who didn't buy from you and charge this fee before you look (and refund if you can't find the part--you could even charge an hourly rate so it is just time spent).

Of course dealers who provide parts are trying to be helpful and are angry at those who don't provide support. The answer (in my mind) is to charge more for parts so you don't feel put out.

Give Tom some time and I'll bet he will have new blocks one day. It is amazing at the number of new parts he has for the greys.
