Hi, I just bought a Yanmar FX17D and the powershift has R N 1 2 3 . It does nothing at all in !st, but Reverse second and third are fine. I know nothing about them, I am assuming there must also be some kind of range selector somewhere, as it is extremely slow in second and third. If anybody could give some advice on it, it would be most appreciated.
Regards, Paul

Welcome to TBN!! You have found THE information source for Yanmar tractors.

The powershift transmissions are very reliable, but they do have hydraulically operated clutches and a hyd pump, which are subject to wear and eventually will fail. However, before considering that the clutch has failed I would try changing the fluid and cleaning the pickup screen.

I recommend that because you mention the slow shifting which could mean that it is not getting sufficient pressure.

Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply. It shifts into reverse, second and third OK. I meant the tractor is slow, but I found the range selector lever, which makes it a lot quicker. How do I clean the pickup screen, where is that located?
Thanks for your help.
Regards, Paul

I am not sure of your set up and the fluid maintence is never a bad idea, that said My 2210BD would not catch 3rd gear( powershift). I took the plastic cover off and discovered that after years of use the shifter which has a fork on the bottom end had spread a bit and the pin holding it on the shaft was worn as well. Just enough to keep it from engaging. Had to cut the old pin out, hammered the fork to close it up, replaced the pin with a 1/4X20 bolt and now it is tight as new and is a good positive shift.

Paul,

I am not at all familiar with the FX17 so maybe someone who is will chime in with a more exact answer. In general, you can follow the larger of the 2 steel lines coming from the Hydraulic pump back to the transmission--the smaller will be the pressure and the larger will be the suction. The suction line will have a screen on the pick up. Mine is behind a cover on the side opposite where the suction line attaches to the trans, others are directly below where the line attaches and are behind a plate on the bottom of the trans. (this last necessitates draining the oil first.)

I do not even know how you would go about trouble shooting your problem if the fluid and screen cleaning do not work. There are a couple of guys on here that work with the newer "F" series--Tractor Ernie and Mickey come to mind.
