Yanmar getting louder

Guys,
I've been using my Yanmar really hard lately, dragging around a lot of dirt. Seems to me that the engine is getting louder, mostly the exhaust. I checked the oil and it was OK. Any suggestions/ ideas as to why? It could just be my ears of course, thanks,bw

I am probably overstating the obvious but it sounds like valve adjustment only. I have worked my tractors pretty hard before they are restored (drivetrain, gears seals, etc). Almost always, engine noise level increases considerably but smooths right out after valve adjustmennt and engine oil change.

Mark,
Can you supply a resource as to what I will need and how to do a valve adjustment on a YM 17000 and a YM 2000 Yanmar?
I have similar problems with my Yanmar engine but I have flushed out all the fuel and put in new diesel fuel from a Citgo gas station. There are RPM ranges that it is quiet around 1000 rpm. I changed the oil. Put in Rotella 30w.

Yanmar 1700,
I have 4 YM model tractors, two and three cylinders (Yours are two cylinder-correct?). ON all my models, the intake and exhaust are .008 (8 thousandths) cold-COLD.

The procedure is not complicated. The valve cover removed, rotating flywheel or engine to where there is no load on rocker or pushrod-loosen nut and set screw and slip your feeler guage to where there is very slight friction on guage blade. Adjust set screw and tighten nut. Repeat on all remaining (3 more) using this start to finish procedure.

Good news - two cylinder YM tractors are especially loud. Usually nic-named affectionately "The Yammer Hammer" Smooth out and quiet down in the 1100 to 1900 range-Sounds as though yours is running normally.

Don't be shy - suggest your start a new post with something like "YM 1700-2000 help" in this forum. Many will gladly respond and several are dealers/experts with tips and specs that will supply you with answers to endless questions.
