I remember the Yanmar rep telling us that Yanmar chose that green color because they thought it symbolized the color of new growing things like new grass and green apples. He was surprised it wasn't popular. Yanmar was totally unprepared for the USA reaction to their lime green. ... But once Yanmar figured it out they weren't slow to change over to a red with just a touch of gold in it. It's a nice color... rScotty
I'm not convinced the US rep knew what Yanmar's marketing department was thinking.

At the time, that green represented modern, unconventional, precedent-breaking, or imitation-hippie - from a marketing perspective. (Never mind it was ugly :D)

Ugh green shag carpet!

I made a little money in real estate back in my Carpenter days when I bought a duplex and then a run down 4-plex that both looked unattractive primarily due that dated (and by then, worn out) green shag carpet. The units were depressing, nobody with good sense would choose to live like that.

Re-carpeting with modern carpet (I looked at brand new rentals and matched their style), and 100% fresh paint inside and out raised what I could rent the units for by 30%. This in turn raised the properties market value (sale price of rental property is a direct multiple of rental income) so I sold them after a couple of years. The profit here was the step up of resale value, not in continuing to operate them. The minimal down payments I had paid for the properties was returned as a nice stake that put me through grad school then helped make a good down payment for the home we raised our kids in.

Hey I started the thread - I can post irrelevant stuff :D :D :D

Thanks Winston and everybody! More or less back on topic - I really am baffled why Google chose that green for their Android logo. To me it looks as off-putting as it was last time.

Scotty, CarDoc - I like Yanmar's red with a hint of gold in it. I had one of my first cars painted that color, maybe a tiny bit more gold. The color was named Chinese Red. It was gorgeous. I can't see why Yanmar detoured from such an excellent color in the 70's. I wonder if the new generation of Yanmar imports will go back to red.

Red is not DEAD! Maybe Yanmar had a lot of John Deere green left over and they just added some addditional pigment - LOL

Had an MG painted that color, got changed real fast!
That green was intended to replace 'fire engine red' on emergency vehicles to make them really distinctive and as a result vehicles that were popular in red suddenly went that crappy green.
You would notice that all airport fire trucks sport that green as well as many fire departments.

Ugh!!! Mid 70's I got a ticket in my 69 Cutlass. My punishment. My parents sold it and gave me my older Sister's Datsun 110 Hatchback. PUKE GRN. with a Tan Vynal Top. :ashamed: Yep!!!
