Yanmar LX4100

Raised on a Deere,

I have a slightly newer manual than you which covers the LX4900, which has the same engine as your LX490 (4TNV84T). My manual states:

"Always run the tractor at less than full speed during the first 50 hours of operation."
"Avoid under any circumstances running the engine at a speed higher than needed."

I've attached a graph of the 4TNV84T performance data. As you can see, your PTO speed at 2600rpm is not full speed, which I would put closer to 3000rpm. The bore and stroke of these new Yanmar CUT engines are more square than other engines out there so they can eke out more rpms/power strokes per minute than other brands/models.

I hope this helps put your mind at ease, but I'm afraid it won't deliver your new tractor any faster. ;)

Thanks so much for that graph. Looks like the fuel efficiency stays good and really flat from 1200 to 2200 RPM and starts to use a bit more fuel per horse power up to 2600 where I will be bush hogging but starts to eat more fuel per horsepower hour at higher engine speeds. Helps to know not to use above 2600 unless it is really needed like traveling down the road.

I like the flatness of the torque curve as well.

did you buy from a dealer in Alabama ?

Yes, Maynard Equipment Inc in Brownsboro AL. I was very comfortable dealing with Bryant. He is staying with Yanmar. Sells a lot of those 24HP rigs with loader and backhoe. It is an awesome digger and very impressive machine.

I was by there today and they had the tank, right fender, tight rear wheel off and other parts. Not a pretty sight but they are about ready to button up. Take delivery day after tomorrow since I am tied up tomorrow. Ain't that something. I have to go through all my routines tomorrow knowing my tractor is sitting there waiting for me.

Knew this day was coming. I owe ya. Need to learn the ropes on uploading pictures. I have a few cell phone ones that are truck, trailer tractor loaded in front of house. I will get on it this weekend just as soon as I get my income taxes done.

Tractor is sitting in back yard looking like and orphan.

Well, the old man is WAY to busy...LOL.
right now, at age 76, he's on top of his 4 tier tobacco barn, fastening loose roofing.
I tried hanging with him for a while today but couldnt keep up and my back started going out.
SO, here I am at 44yrs old, laid up in bed on a beautiful spring day and dad is out havin fun.

We bought some different pins so the 7ft tiller will attach to the Yanmar and tilled up a gargen and a nice food plot area in the back 10. The LX490 had no issues with the 7ft tiller in hard clay. Were gonna plow the back 10 but wanted to see what the tiller would do first by itself. Pretty impressive. 2 passes is all it took in bard clay. Shoulda waited about 3 days though. Still a bit clumpy from moisture.

i could hear the turbo whistling the whole time. Pretty slick.

The tranny/clutch/reverser on this thing is outta sight. The lift height is as high as our old 65hp Branson 6530c.

no pics right now. Wish I coulda got some of dad up on the barn roof. He wanted to use the bucket to vet up there but its a tall barn and was too high.

No haven't forgotten. Just struggling to get my act together.
Did get some seat time in this past few days and I must say I am even more impressed with the machine. Loaded up with Rim Guard, and took it to the farm in KY.

That power reverser clutch thing is the berries. Can keep feet flat on the floor with more keeping mind to have right foot ready incase brakes are needed, the left foot can take a hike. The left foot is only needed when I want to speed up shift or down shift. No need to keep a foot doing something to maintain ground speed when going up and down the hills or when changing load. Just throw that shuttle lever into neutral, forward or reverse at slow speed, high speed, sitting on a hill or whatever. The hydraulic clutch just instantly starts loading the engine but never a shock or jerk like you sometimes can do with the foot clutch.

I also got the feel for the engine performance just tooling around at small loads and also with the 7 foot roto tiller. I was a bit concerned that the 7' foot tiller might not be a good match but when we dropped it into heavy clay dirt just started flying. Engine just got happy with what seemed like a lot or reserve. I put rim guard in the rear tires and I am sure that contributed to the sure footed way it handled the tiller as it was clawing at the ground.

I also really enjoyed all the 3PT hitch rigging. the extenders, and the stabizers were easy to use in controlling where the arms were to make hook up very easy. And I found that I can stand at the right hand arm and reach the control to adjust the height. A longer handle will make it better and that is one project on my list. The 3PT did a smooth precise job of lifting light loads and that heavy 7 foot tiller, wow you could raise and lower to any height smoothly. And the lift lowers repeatedly to the preset height precisely. That is going to be nice with the bush hog.

So many things worked so well. The advertising is correct, this is a no compromise tractor. For me that is. The only thing I have compromised with this tractor is to forgo a well established dealership network. So far the things I have heard people bellyaching about is stuff that happens with all tractors one way or the other. Hydraulic fittings, certainly will not be my down fall.

The loader is quicker than the Branson loader and just as high. The Branson would not let you tilt and raise at the same time. The Yanmar does. there will be somethings I don't like but it will take some real field time to get to the nitty gritty. Around the barn, and tree trimming, gardening chores it is a dream. The tiller experience says it is not headed for any major future embarrassments.

My son poked his nose into some brush wit it and tore the Cub Cadet Yanmar logo off the brush guard. Now my tractor is a Yanmar. Only place that says anything about Cub Cadet is the loader.
