Is anyone here familiar with Hopper Cooled Yanmar diesel engines with the huge exposed flywheel that is started with hand crank?
It is similar to those antique gasoline hit & miss engines often seen at county fairs with steam escaping from the open top water reservoir.
A google search identified it as possibly a Yanmar NS10 10hp diesel.
A search of the Yanmar website does not list it but a google AI search shows many photos of units for sale.

Thanks 90cummins

Records show this is an Ag engine as TS120/NS10 with an 88 sized piston.
The newer TS model is the TS190

Upon inspecting your image, it does look to be a TS-xxx model.
Finding info on the historic TS-120/NS-10 is challenging as it was made way back in the 1970s.

I forgot to mention the numbers 00141E stamped on the block.

Back to your image and these from Yanmar, even the platform looks the same.

Seeing the color yellow, I would assume this model was a road-crew genset for hwy maintenance or construction at one time.

Yanmar and Kukje have been partners for 60+ years. Kukje makes many of the Yanmar parts.

Here is the Kukje KD-120

I have run the engine loaded (2200 rpm) approx 3kw to warm it up and changed the oil @ cleaned oil filter several times. Filter is looking better each cleaning.
I removed the hopper to clean radiator and replaced the water plate with holes in it. It was all but gone. Reassembled & adjusted governor linkage to hopefully improve power but no change.
Next on my list is to perform a fuel consumption test using two 1.5 kw heaters as a load and measure fuel consumption using a postal scale to measure grams of fuel weight consumed in 1 hour. I can then calculate fuel consumption in grams/hp hour.
I have recorded the fuel consumption rate of my other L series Yanmars L70, L90 & L100.
I would hope this to be as good or better, we will know soon.

I had a letterpress that continuous operated with that setup. Heidelburg, a Air pump was added with the elec. motor so then it would stay in motion. 1800's model. You would pull a large wheel by hand and the weight of the die plates worked in a centrifugal manor. You had lead Lettering and Numbering to print with and set a die. I still used it in a printing shop until the early 2000's.
I can see the Yanmar Marine use on that. No water pump on a Ym1700 is another example.

Heidelberg's are amazing. My understanding is that they are still in demand because of the quality.

@90cummins that looks like a fun engine! I will be interested to learn whether or how the specific fuel consumption is different.

All the best, Peter
