Those Indian/Pakistani videos are unique. Keep in mind that from the 1900's to the 1950's, and even later, vehicles and equipment were made ground up with similar tools and equipment.

The welded steel may well be as strong/hard as the base metal.

The biggest problem is whether or not the tooth profile would be good enough. One could use dyes and gauges to monitor precision of hand grinding the teeth. Apparently not being used in the video, at least what was shown.

In the more modern world, one might be able to program a CNC to grind and polish the teeth. Better if one's mill was capable of matching the axis on the tooth profile.

From links above, an E-Bay ad keeps popping up. I don't know if it is the right gear set.

$915... Whew!!! But, that may well be what the gear would cost.

So, is the tractor used for $915 worth of work? Or does one wish to do a backyard kludge that could get it moving under it's own power, and doing light home duty?

Undoubtedly there are shops that can cut new gears from scratch. However, it won't be cheap.
I saw that gear set. 194193-31390 is the number I'm looking for. That is the going rate for them but the tractor is in almost new condition and its 4x4. It would bring 4500-5000 in my area. I did get a quote to cut a new gear and it wasn't pretty..(3000)

Unfortunately for many products out of production, they're worth more piecing them out than as a whole. Thus "good" items that are either intact, or need a small repair get stripped for parts.

Nonetheless, that is what also keeps the old vehicles or tools on the road.

I posted those as a joke. Those repairs are bogus. Anyone who knows about manufacturing, metallurgy, precision machining would never accept those welding and grinding techniques as a proper repair.
I have watched several of these Pakistani or Indian repair videos. I think they are legit, though I don't know for sure. I believe that stuff is being repaired and then used. I have no idea of the reliability of the repairs. Anyway, if you think about it, hand grinding of the gears could work. In fact, many gears used to be finished by hand fitting. Even complex helical gears were hand fitted as late as the second world war. The people who did this were highly skilled.
As to your statement that nobody that knows manufacturing, metallurgy, etc. would accept the repair as proper, I agree. But I think the people doing these repairs don't really care, they are just doing their best with what they have. I would love to see one of these repairs in person.

I wonder if one could find one of those overseas YouTube shops.

Send them the part plus a $100 bill, and just see what comes back.

It couldn't be much worse that what one already has.

If you're going to try it, then first try to find a junk yard rear-end, and have a go at it with some practice parts.

If I had to attempt this repair I would do the fitting with the ring and pinion in place in the tractor. Blue in the gear set on the good teeth and then fit the repaired teeth. This would be time consuming. For the repaired teeth to last they must have the proper contact so that the force is distributed the proper amount. The contact patch would be specified in the tractor service manual. It would be like setting up the ring and pinion in a car or truck differential. If I did it it would probably take me 60 hours. But I'm old and have been retired for 2 years.
